In games decided by 3 points or less. These last pair of heartbreakers made me curious as to how good we've been in the Prohm era in one possession games. I tried to count OT as less than 3 but may have missed one or two. Just to deepen the look I also checked games decided by 6 points or less:
2019-20: 3: 0-2 6: 0-3
2018-19: 3: 1-4 6: 5-7
2017-18: 3: 1-2 6: 3-6
2016-17: 3: 5-4 6: 8-7
2015-16: 3: 2-4 6: 4-7
Total: 3: 9-16 (36%) 6: 20-30 (40%)

Tim Floyd practically feasted on close games while at ISU. For Prohm, they are his bane.

Floyd knew who to target down the stretch. He would have feasted on putting Samuel on the line until they were forced to take him out. Prohm, for what ever reason, didn't go after the biggest liability TCU has.

Yep. Floyd is the only coach i've ever seen that would start committing intentional fouls with 4 or 5 minutes left in the game and it always seemed to work .

CBB reference has Prohm with 38 games decided by 6 points (either way) or go to OT.

Prohm is 17-21 in those games

Prohm is 8-8 in games decided by 3 points or less
Prohm is 17-19 in games decided by 6 points or less

Chris Beard is 18-13 in games decided by 6 points (either way) or go to OT.

Did he really? Floyd was just a touch above .500.

94-95 3-6
95-96 4-1
96-97 4-3
97-98 4-3

Overall 15-13

Hoiberg

10-11 3-4
11-12 3-1
12-13 1-3
13-14 4-0
14-15 4-3

Overall 15-11
I feel like you don’t understand how big a gulf that is in reality. Hoiberg was .577. Floyd was .536. Prohm as was stated is .360. That is the Grand Canyon when it comes to coaching ability.

I agree there is a huge difference.

But the poster I quoted said "Floyd feasted on close games at ISU", while .536 is good I don't think it qualifies as "feasted". After reading the "feasted" comment I was expecting Floyd to be around .750.

So I agree that Floyd was good in those games but I think it is a stretch to say he "feasted".

Close games often come down to in-bounds plays. Hoiberg had a beauty last night. The down-court pass for an open layup was an absolute dagger to the hopes of the Hoks.
