RIP Coach Jim Walden

He got a bad rap, because he ran his mouth about nothing ever being his fault, and that he was as good as the best coaches in the game, dragging ISU through the mud, because he couldnt admit he was part of the problem, and the cheap hire because he wasnt very good, which went right along with the lack of Athletic support.

Then there is this:

94 Walden
95-96 McCarney

Not exactly "Maximizing what he had"
We get it. You don't like Walden.

If he "wasnt very good", as you suggest, he wouldn't have had a winning record in his third season despite no administration support and terrible facilities. It took McCarney six years to get a winning record with much better admin support and facilities.

I really don't get the Troy Davis outrage either. It's not like running him worked any miracles for McCarney. It was a different era; freshman often didn't get that much action.

Walden had his faults. He wasn't tactful, particularly when kissing donor arse, and that was/is something that can bring a lot of grief to a program, and it did for Walden. But I don't get dogging his coaching skills. He was ok.

It does boggle my mind that he didn't take the ASU offer. Maybe he thought Jischke would put some money into football after Eaton left.

RIP Coach.

RTT...20-20 hindsight.

Speaking of dating apps. I am afraid of them. There are one or two women I reach out to when the time is right but past that I have no idea what I am doing.
That's how I met Lew...through a precursor to the apps. Before your time, there was a page or 3 in the DMRegister called Datemaker that used a "middle man" type arrangement. One person places an ad, another person responds to the ad by calling a number with the Register and leaving a voice mail for the specific ad. The OP could then respond to the voice mail (or not).
I responded to his ad because of pressure from a friend who was tired of me complaining that most of the likeable men my age (38) were married. :(

That was in 1993. :D

Tyrese Haliburton injury update: Pacers star adds 30 pounds

For years I took Acyclovir for cold sores and have taken the two shot vaccine for shingles. My father described shingles like taking fiber glass and rubbing a spot until thousands of the glass fibers get in your body. My last days of work my longtime friend had a medical emergency with shingles blocking her airways. Haven't seen her since.

My granddaughter (early 30s so "too young" for the vaccinations) got shingles on the side of her face over a year ago. She still has to use Rx eyedrops on that side...it messed with the tear duct on that side.

Update, I'm thrilled with it so far. Only used it 6 times on Thursday, but 3 great results and the rest were workable results. Tons of spin has been part of my problem with drivers, and this one wants to go straight. I mean, it fights the off center strikes and if anything, seems to go straight in the direction that you missed it in, but still not significantly off line.

What’s the loft on it?

If you've never had shingles, pray you never get them.

MBB season tkt renewal

It's fine if they open the back gates, but when those are still closed at the end of a game it takes forever to get out. Probably only had them open for half of the big12 games.
Even when they haven't been open, driving down the West lane to C5 and just being agressive getting into the main lane is easy. I also just go to South Dakota and take the back roads half the time.

Commercials that need to be shot into the sun

The ******* "Philly Boy" ads that are all over my Spotify and YouTube right now. If Philadelphia Cream Cheese werent so good, Id stop eating it just because of those god damned commercials.
Agree. For a lot of the commercials out there it's not even that they're all that terrible of an ad, it's just that you hear/see it literally 20 times every hour. So obnoxious.

RIP Coach Jim Walden

Walden gets a lot of blame for running ISU Football in the ground, but in reality in was all Criner..

I think it was a mixed bag of problems. We had an AD that simply didn't care enough to invest in the program what it needed, and Criner did Criner things and really put ISU in a hole, so many of Walden's complaints and excuses were valid. And perhaps had Walden coached ISU 10 years later he would have been given more leeway because he did get ISU to mediocre and would have taken ISU to some low-tier bowl games as a result, much like McCarney did... but at the same time he wasn't some savior of ISU football, either. The big difference between Walden and McCarney is while Walden was all too willing to lay the blame of his shortcomings on the university he was coaching at (and, as I said, those complaints aren't entirely wrong), McCarney instead took responsibility for his own shortcomings. For McCarney, while there was a lot of negative feelings toward him in the mid-late 2000s because he failed to meet expectations after he himself raised the bar of success (especially looking at 2005 and 2006), 20 years later he's looked at much kinder. And while time and perspective helped shift the opinion on Walden as well, I don't think he'll ever be looked at as kindly as McCarney is.

One of the guys in my regular group got one of those awhile ago. His iron and short games are incredible, but hitting off the tee has always been a struggle for him. He just has a naturally steep attack angle. Obviously works for irons, but not what you want with the driver. I think the mini works for him because it’s basically a hybrid driver/fairway wood. In reality, he doesn’t really need it, because he has some 3 hybrid he bought a thousand years ago (for real, might have been when they first started making them) that he can hit anywhere from 180-255 on command. But, when he needs a little more off the tee, the mini works a lot better for him than the 445-460cc drivers.
I have a naturally steep attack angle too. Just doesn't feel like I'm in the right position if I'm not doing that, so obviously I'm trying to fight that tendency as I set up with this club.

Turnsek is playing for Slovenia in the U20 Eurobasket tournament starting tomorrow.

First game is at 12:30 Central. Stats and video here:
I didn't have a chance to watch, but she had a bit of a rough game as Slovenia lost 60-45. She had 5 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals, but she shot 0-9 on FG (5-8 FT) and had 4 turnovers.

Next game is tomorrow at 12:30 central vs France
