Friday OT - Don’t Tell Me Not To Be Afraid

Thanks so much to @Farnsworth for this topic! Here it is:
————————
Please tell us your irrational fears. Not talking like spiders and ****. Like everyday life things.
————————

I have this bizarre phobia of semis while I am driving. I so respect the drivers and what they are doing to keep the country going… but I have to fight a mini panic attack anytime I have to drive by one on a narrow road, or especially when I am stuck between two in a three-lane situation. I am not a great driver by any means, so I think maybe it is that I feel like I am going to accidentally veer into one and get decapitated? IDK, but I don’t love it when other people are driving - but HATE driving between them when I am driving.

That is my totally bizarre, irrational, no logical reason for it fear. What are yours?

Save the raccoons!

sorry guys- i need to post this to vent and make fun of the author.

what the hell is this piece? i get its an opinion piece.

raccoons are notorious for carrying rabies. we farmers are basically calling the raccoons in because of our crops and the grain that we have laying around, so its our fault they show up! When they tear into bags of feed or tear into other stuff its our fault too.

I for one, will generally catch a coon in a live trap and release it elsewhere. I have shot and killed a few boar coons because those things are big and mean and I don't need my dogs getting in a fight with them.

priscilla if youre on cf go get f*cked.

Getting in the mind of MBB foes based on their posts ...

Jeeezus I hate to be a doom and gloomer...I'm about as positive a fan as I can think of but this **** is getting ridiculous.

Haven't finished above 7th in the conference since 2016, currently tied for 8th and will probably finish around there. Missed the tourney last year and will most likely do so again this year. Meanwhile, KSU (and ISU) totally flips the script in less than a season.

Groves has been a total no show in conference. We're 50 games into Moser's system and I'm not seeing any improvement. And I'm not talking about wins. Low IQ basketball, poor shooting, head scratchingly bad turnovers, inability to handle success, inability to handle adversity, can't finish through contact, can't get a big bucket when you need it, can't get a big stop when you need it....

Uzan looks like he had the makings of a really good player. CJ has been playing better, have some highly ranked kids signed. But if we don't aren't seeing things start to click next year, I guess we just aren't going to.

And it sucks. College basketball is my favorite sport. Obviously OU is my favorite team. I'm gonna continue to ***** about the arena and schedule, but, hell, we got to get better or just resign ourselves to being DePaul or Colorado.

What's your preferred live scoreboard / score tracking app/site?

I've been trying to quit ESPN for years (other than keeping my sub to ESPN+ for watching the Cyclones), but the only thing I use their app/site for is their 'Scores' page. Their articles are awful, their navigation is awful, their ad interruptions are awful, and just everything about their app/site I find awful....except for their live 'Scores' page. It's a cut above the rest in terms of live score tracking across multiple games, easy filtering options, play-by-playa and comprehensive in-game stat updates, etc...

I've tried Google's scoreboard, but it's really only good for tracking 1 game at a time, and real-time stats and play-by-play isn't great. I've also tried CBS Sports, Fox Sports, even The Athletic. Those obvious sports platforms are a bit lacking too in scoreboard features.

So whadya got? What do you use for daily in-game score/play/stat tracking?

It probably helps to add that I don't do sports betting, but idk, it sounds like those apps might actually need to have really good UI for tracking multiple game updates?

Brock Purdy

I’m sure this has been said in here but in case it hasn’t……

Every single person who ever said they were getting sick of Brock or wished he would have been sat down his senior year for Dekkers should be ashamed of yourself.

If Brock wins the Super Bowl this year I demand a statue of him built in front of the stadium bc he’s OBVIOUSLY the biggest difference maker in cyclone history.

Did he turn the ball over more than most of us liked??? We’ll that happens when you’re running for your life on every play bc your line can’t protect you.

We couldn’t have a better representative for ISU and Ames.

Why not re-rank today 1/19 ...

1. Ku - yes, they lost by one in OT
2. ISU - win at TCU trumps loss at AFH
3. K-State - loss at TCU trumps win over squawks
4. TCU - bad loss at Morgantown
5. Baylor - won three straight after losing same
6. Texas - not over beard
7. oSu - won bedlam
8. WVU - first fine dine - frog legs
9. OU - the porter
10. TxT - scoreboard says 0-6

PHOTO GALLERY FROM TUESDAY

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to share my full gallery from Tuesday. This might be the biggest gallery I’ve ever made in terms of amount of photos! I hope you guys like them! Let me know your favorites :)

Twister Sister Summary - Wins come from team play

This was one early in the season that I had pegged as a "breather" for the sisters. And then we saw the newly coached team beat both Baylor and Texas. That says a lot about both OSU and this conference. It's def wide open baby.

Ryan opens this game with a trey and it would be a sign of things offensively for our point guard. Initially the team was working inside and out on the offense. Very nice mix of plays. Even the defense looks better which is a good thing!

But after three straight empty possessions that allowed OSU back into it, Ryan nails another trey. But another turnover on Ryan gave OSU the lead 9-8 early. I'm not really sure what happened, but once our offense got out of sync so did our defense. OSU was eating our D alive and coring on nearly every possession. We struggled to come off screens giving them open looks.

In a bad omen for the rest of the game, Ashley is playing all by herself and missing everything. With the help of an inert ISU offense, OSU scored on five straight possessions to lead 17-11. It really amazes me how our offense can look so terrible. Can’t hit open looks, layups or short jumpers. Treys are the only thing keeping us In this as we made 4 of 6 attempts.

At the end of a quarter...if we have the ball...I think Vegas should have some type of betting as to how ISU can screw up the possession. As usual…we hold the ball for the last shot and the play was as bad as the rest of the quarter as we let the ball roll out of bounds. It was a close one as OSU leads 17-16.

As the second quarter starts I swear the offense is like what was run when Bolte was here. Stand around the perimeter and make defending easy. Add to the misery as Joens is still playing one on five and can’t get any of her junk to fall.

The quarter would see both teams struggling on the offensive end. Somewhat appropriately, the score is 19-19. At times Ryan was being a bit reckless when we have the ball. Kane got a rebound score, but missed the harm. She really was beginning to settle into this game. The lead was 25-21 ISU. I was confused as it seemed a point was taken away from us right after our first basket. Can someone explain that one?

Joens finally got her first point at the line, but it would be slim pickings for her tonight. The ladies eased out to 27-21 as OSU is cold and our D has picked up the pressure. We are doing a fantastic job on defensive rebounding.

Joens would hit her first trey and OSU Garzone answered right back. This thing reminded me of a heavyweight boxing match. Just as the ladies had built a lead, the offense goes cool and OSU comes right back. Kane scored again after another nice assist, but OSU scored before half and ISU leads by 4, 32-28.

The third started with a Donarski drive for 2, but OSU immediately answered. Kane gets another rebound score. I think I could just copy/paste that last sentence as this was the name of her game tonight.

Joens made a "what the hell was that #$@@ shot" with a wide open shooter waiting for the ball. She played 1 on 5 again on the next possession and the next with the same result each time. She’s hurting the team on the offensive end of the court. Despite that, ISU was clinging to the lead 39-36.

Things fell apart a little bit as the defense was breaking down and OSU got a wide open trey to tie the game. OSU would take the lead and M&M promptly turned it over. As with early in the game there was not a lot of movement on offense. The lead was one 40-39 OSU.

Remember last game how the posts were nearly 100% ineffective? Tonight was just the opposite. We all know what Kane was doing to this point, but even with Izzi in good things were happening. She hit a pair of free throws to give ISU the lead. ISU would keep missing from the field and OSU was starting to heat up. During this time ISU was 1 for last 9 shots. As with early in the game, our switches on defense were giving OSU shots.

Our offensive ineptitude hit rock bottom when our shooting is wasn't even hitting the rim. For those clamoring for M&M to have a chance...she got some minutes tonight. But wasn't remotely close on any of her shots.

Ryan would hit a three to end the quarter and give ISU a 49-47 lead. Somehow this seemed like a great place to be after the offensive woes of the 3rd.

I never thought I'd see Joens hitting only 3-14 from the field. It was apparent why. She’s forcing it. She's playing by herself. IMO by this time in the game that is the coaching staff's fault.

The quarter got off to a good start with Donarski hitting a trey. On one of TWO amazing shots for the night (the other by Diew later) OSU hits a three from WAY out there. I mean this was a Caitlyn Clark type three. Like that heavyweight bout where two fighters are trading blows this one was 52-50 sisters early.

Another "shake my head" play occurred on an inbounds play as Ashley forced up an ill advised trey and misses everything. She just seems like she wants to do it all by herself.

Diew hits a three after a nice assist by Ryan. 57-52 ISU. Ryan was doing what Joens needs to do...drive and dish. Defense collapsed on Ryan leaving Diew open. Money.

Kane was having her best game of the year. She made a pair of free throws, makes another FT and it’s 60-53 for the sisters. On an aside, I love Diew's energy. Being on the court with her has to be contagious. She's smiling, hugging, high fiving, hustling her butt off and getting things done. Then comes the second AMAZING shot of the night. Diew is not what I would consider a great driving player. But she did, was defended closely and put up a scoop shot that cleared and dropped in. It was a narrow 62-57 lead with 3:39 left

Then the ladies had a strong drive by Fritz. She didn't score, but it led to 1 FT. Diew would hit another three after a big assist by Ryan. Ryan worked inside just like last time and drew the d in. The lead was nine with 1:32 left in the ball game. At this point the game plan was to run clock and make free throws. The ladies did an effective job of beating the press and running clock. It did get a little nerve wracking was a turnover and missed free throw allowed OSU to pull within five. But Ryan to the rescue with a pair of FT and that followed by Fritz with the ice at the line. OSU would get some junk late to make it look closer than then ending really was. Final 69-64.

Observations
POG. This is a tough one. As the byline said...this was a team win. So...I'm going for TEAM.

First key to this game. Rebounding. This is where Joens shined. The ladies outrebounded OSU 40-28. Remember last game when Texas ate us up (and made us pay) with offensive rebounds? Tonight OSU had ONE.

Second key to the game. Assists. ISU was at its best when the ball was being shared (note to Joens). THIRTEEN assists tonight. Seven by Emily.

Turnovers. Twenty last game. Twelve tonight. BIG.

Free Throws? 11-15 compared to 5-8 by OSU.

Ryan - Overall she had a great game. She has the ball all the time so she does make some mistakes along the way. But after a horrid game v Texas she comes back with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and only 3 turnovers. Yep...I'll take that every day of the week.

Diew - she had a very good game offensively and defensively. 12 points and 2 boards. Add her energy and this is good stuff.

Kane - best game of the season so far. She was a bit rough in the early going but settled in. 11 points and 8 boards. She was tough tonight.

Izzi - good effort off the bench. She is growing right in front of our eyes. She was tough. Hit her scoring opportunities. 4 points and 1 board in only 3 minutes of play.

Donarski - Had some pretty sketchy fouls called on her and that put her on the bench for a while. She had some beautiful drives and her defense was a clinic. 9 points and 3 boards. Still need more scoring from her consistently.

Joens - In the second half of the writeup I finally stopped using my notes that said "playing 1 on 5 again." It was the worst offensive showing I've ever seen her have. She was forcing things that didn't need to happen. She left her teammates hanging out to dry. Three for seventeen from the field isn't trying to work through a few missed shots. It's failing to be part of a team on the offensive end. On the defensive end she was a monster on the boards. She added 12 more to her record total. Effort is always there, but...

M&M - she's getting into the game and is what I would call serviceable at this point. Not a scoring threat right now. She does good things in other ways, but her scoring is what's needed most.

So, as I mentioned it was a team win. Four of the ladies were in double figures scoring. There were double digit assists. OSU was held to one offensive rebound. But...there is still a lot of work to be done. But what matters is the win. Let's go for another Saturday as the Jayhawks come to town (BTW...no one in this conference is a push-over this year...I won't even pick on TCU yet).
