Friday OT - Quit acting up

Since Angie didn't have one today, I thought I'd try my first Friday OT. Tell us about your acting experience. Are you a good actor, a terrible actor, were you in school plays, did you ever have any embarrassing experiences on stage? I'll go first.

I'm a terrible actor. I've been in exactly two plays, one as a schoolboy and one as an adult. The one when I was in school was either in my junior year or senior year and we were putting on a play about Stephen Foster, so kind of a musical, kind of not. I played some insubstantial role that could have just as easily been cut from the play and nobody would have been the wiser, but the play's director played it up like it was the pivotal plot point of the whole show. It wasn't.

I had two lines and then we were supposed to walk off stage. It was me and another guy talking to "Stephen Foster." I blew my last line and addressed the other guy talking to Foster as my character's name. It was the last line of my "performance" and I muttered under my breath, "Let's get the "eff" out of here, only I used the real word. I said it under my breath, but I'm sure people in the front row right in front of the stage and maybe a few rows back heard it.

My second role was in a murder mystery as an adult. I was hornswoggled into playing the dead man. I wasn't even part of the community theater, but I knew the director and he begged me to play the part of the murder victim. I had no lines so I couldn't blow this, surely. Wrong. As the curtain rose on the play, I was slumped over a desk in a den, already dead. I even had the foresight to provide myself with a little pillow that was hidden from the audience because I had to lay that way, head on a hard table for about 10 minutes. I learned during rehearsals that it would get painful without the pillow. Try supporting your weight on your head for a while with one arm sprawled on the desk and the other flung over the side of the desk for dramatic effect and you'll see what I mean.

So I'm laying there as the other cast members ... the detective investigating the crime, family members of the victim etc. ... said their lines when all of a sudden, the corpse coughed. It just came on me so suddenly, that I couldn't have suppressed it if I wanted to. The audience tittered and I still had five minutes of playing dead left to go. If they had been paying attention, they could have seen the corpse's face turning red.

So that's my very brief and disastrous career on stage in two of my most embarrassing moments.

Top 5 Most Consequential Games/Events in ISU Athletics History

I liked @Die4Cy 's idea for consequential figures in ISU history, so I piggybacked off that for this post.

Thread title is self explanatory. Good and bad.

For FB, I'm going with Oklahoma 2017 and Iowa 1998.

BB is a little tougher, probably some games in the 80s for the good, but that was before my time. Hampton 2001 for bad.
For WBB, maybe UConn 1999?

Wrestling, unfortunately have to go with the event of Gable leaving for Iowa.

General: Hiring of Pollard in 05.

CF PREGAME: No. 22 Iowa State takes on South Dakota

FEATURE: Mike Tyson was no match for the 2000 ISU team that made history with first bowl win

Des Moines Golfer Makes History: Michael McCoy

Des Moines golfer Mike McCoy made history today becoming the first to ever win both the US Mid-Am and US Senior Am. His son Nate McCoy holds one of the best resumes in ISU golf history.

Also notable that 2 other Des Moines golfers Jon Brown and Gene Elliott made the round of 32. Apparently DSM is the hub for some of the best senior amateur golfers in the country, there is hope for some of us yet!

Traffic Flow

Just saw this in the gameday information. Does anyone have any info on this, or is there a map showing where we will be directed to drive?

In an effort to respond to feedback about post-game traffic shared in last year’s season-ending fan survey, Iowa State worked with local law enforcement to review and develop a plan to address those issues ahead of the 2025 season.

This egress traffic plan was developed and implemented in partnership with the Iowa State University Police, Iowa State Patrol, City of Ames and Iowa State Athletics.

This plan was designed to give each parking zone a defined traffic route exclusive to their area to hopefully improve the overall traffic flow leaving the vicinity of the stadium, while providing a defined route to move away from the stadium efficiently and reduce crossover at key intersections which previously slowed overall traffic flow.

Please note that this plan will be in effect after each 2025 home football game and will be utilized until traffic levels return to normal traffic flows and then traffic restrictions will be lifted.

This may impact preferred individual routes exiting the stadium, but the overall plan is developed to provide an efficient method to get the bulk of the traffic offsite in an efficient manner – with a targeted goal of free-flowing traffic within 90 minutes of the conclusion of the game.

Law enforcement will have aerial surveillance of the traffic egress for the first two games and we will continue to evaluate its effectiveness as we move through the season.

We thank you for your patience as we implement this new plan at the start of this season and welcome your feedback via email or click here.

Top 5 most consequential figures in ISU athletics history

From a conversation I was having recently, who are the top 5 most consequential figures in ISU athletics, can be good or bad. My list:

1. Jamie Pollard by a mile
2. Matt Campbell
3. Johnny Orr
4. Dan McCarney
5. Fred Hoiberg (combined as coach and player.)

Honorable Mentions: Cael Sanderson in leaving ISU. Brock Purdy becoming the winningest Cyclone and then the face of ISU athletics at the next level. Gordon Eaton, ISU president, for de-emphasizing athletics in the early 80's when all the major branding for television was being formed. Jack Trice--you know why.

Vetmed Parking

I have a VetMed parking pass this year for the first time and I am still over in Europe from the Ireland game. For the SD game I gave my parking pass and game tickets to my MIL to attend. Does anyone know if she will have a guaranteed parking spot in VetMed or do they over sell and cut off people once the lot is full? She won’t come early to tailgate prior to the game and I am not confident in her ability to find a spot if she is turned away.
