This isn’t by definition NIL. 99% of people couldn’t name a single member of the swimming and diving team. I’m guessing it’s a small dollar figure but I still don’t see the benefit. Curious to hear the other side of the argument.

Just wondering how many are enjoying a holiday weekend (even an extended it more than 3 days) or a full holiday week?


We're doing a holiday weekend, though we came up to Leech Lake MN yesterday and my husband is working and has an office with a view this week.

Sunday evening I get home from a long day/night of work. What went from an evening shift ending at 12:30/1, didn’t until 4:30. I got home and ready to pass out at 5am for a few hours.

I start hearing what sounds like a very loud, but apparently effective, bug zapper. No big deal.

Then I started hearing the whiz of bottle rockets, followed by the bang of mortars and 25ct rockets.

A few poppers and bottle rockets, sure. But this was lead up to finale of July 4th level mortars. In the middle of a crowded neighborhood, at 5am.

I was beyond tired and didn’t really care. So I went to my porch, in just my boxers, waited for the 25ct pack to conclude, then said pretty firmly, “it’s 5 in the f#%^*ing morning.”

She popped off “wtf?!?” And said something under her breathe about going to grab more.

She didn’t and I and I presume others were able to sleep.

I don’t FEEL like a Karen in this instance, but what say you? Would you say something? Is that a Karen moment? Where’s your personal line?

Wanting to discuss more Karen line vs fireworks etiquette, but CF will do with this as it pleases and I ain’t trying to Karen yall into staying on topic

I just got done pruning my seedlings after some prolific germination this year. I usually do a few seeds per pod to help germination rates but I had multiple pop through in nearly every pod.

I have some quite leggy tomatoes at the bottom which concerns me a little but I’ll go the burying the stem route when I repot to the next container and likely again when I move them to the final container.

Also as you can see, only 3 pods didn’t germinate out of 72. All the same plant, the Carolina Reaper, which were free seeds from the pepper seed haul AND they’re known for taking up to 45 days to germinate so having one healthy looking guy after less than 2 weeks is pretty decent in my book. Maybe the rest will come through.

I absolutely do not have the space for all these to go to full maturity since I am balcony gardening in downtown Chicago. The plan was gonna be 5ish of the best looking plants as more of a testing season. But I might try for 10 now, don’t think I can fit 1 of each type (18) out there but maybe we’ll create an urban jungle.

With the "main sports seasons" out of the way, I've found myself some more free time and have started up a new book series: The Lightbringer Series by Brent Weeks. I'm only halfway through the first book, but it's got me locked in... excited to se where it goes.

Exciting part about this series, is that I know it is complete. I've given up hope on Rothfuss and RR Martin.

After this is done I'll likely throw in a classic or two to change it up. What's everyone else been reading?

Since it's summer - and hot - and we've used a lot of terms associated with seasons and with weather. This week we've decided to take a bit of a twist on the theme.

Need to get a new self-propelled walk behind lawn mower, my old Craftsman has bit the dust. Am looking into Cub Cadet, Troy-Built, DeWalt, a few others but am wondering if there are any positive reviews or brands to avoid based on personal experiences? TIA

Humboldt Golf Fundraiser for the Cyclone Regional Training Center is June 28th at the Humboldt Golf Course. It is a 4 man 18 hole best shot. We have 1 team spot that just opened up before being a sellout. Cost is $500 per team. Also each team member gets a cart to use, meal ticket and some golf swag.

We also have Hole Sponsorships available for $500. That gets you 4 meal tickets to the event, a sponsorship sign with your name & logo on it. That is suppose to be signed by the wrestlers and staff and given back to the sponsor to display. Also gets you 2 tickets to the Iowa State vs SDSU (I think it is against SDSU) dual in Humboldt. That should be a good dual.

We also will have various silent and live auction and some raffles at the event.

It's not educational but we are enjoying Ryan Trahan's 50 states in 50 days series. I appreciate his overall positive approach on his channel. Bonus, we saw him in the Atlanta airport a few years ago. Our youngest happened to have found a penny just prior, so our oldest was brave enough to go up to him and give it to him. If you are familiar with his channel, this would make sense. He was very nice during their brief interaction.
