RECRUITING: Iowa State bringing in 2026 quarterback for in-game visit

Iowa State football will host 2026 quarterback prospect CJ Turnbull on an in-game visit during one of the team’s first three home games.

The 6-foot-2 Millwood High School product holds just two offers – Kent State and UNLV – so far, but is on the program’s radar.

“They said they want me to keep doing what I’m doing,” Turnbull said. “They like my film.”

Turnbull was invited to camp in Ames this summer, but a conflicting date prevented him from making the trip.

The Oklahoma City prospect has heard recent interest from both OU and Kansas State, as well as the Cyclones.

“What I’m working on this year is just completions and getting my completion rate up,” Turnbull said. “You’ll probably see me run more.”

Iowa State has offers out to two, non-committed quarterbacks in the 2026 class, in Ohio’s Nathan Bernhard and Kansas’ Jaylen Mason.

With Elite 11 quarterback Alex Manske committed to the 2025 class, and a healthy numbered room there going into the 2024 season, the ‘need’ for a player at the spot won’t appear high.

However, it would be a shock if the 2026 class didn’t include a player at the quarterback spot. One of the three mentioned above could definitely end up being that one, too.

The Cyclones will open the season against North Dakota on August 31, at 2:30 p.m. CT (Fox Sports 1).
