Iowa State defensive end David Caulker has medically retired from football.

Caulker posted the following message after the news was first reported by Rivals’ Bill Seals.

“Things like this can happen to anyone which is why you should NEVER take your blessings for granted. This is all apart of the test of life which god has granted. Only he knows!”

The Des Moines, Iowa native will now be a student assistant with the program.

Caulker was a three-star prospect out of high school, and redshirted in his lone season in Ames.
