Iowa State has earned its first commitment to the 2025 recruiting class in Algona High School quarterback Alex Manske.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect told CycloneFanatic he was close to making his decision earlier this week, after seeing the Iowa State staff out in full to watch Algona’s basketball game against Clear Lake.

Manske’s decision ultimately came down to Iowa State and Texas A&M. The Aggies’ offensive coordinator in Collin Klein was present at Monday’s basketball game as well.

Manske is rated as the No. 3 prospect in the state, and No. 34 quarterback in the country by 247 Sports.

His full offer sheet included Iowa State, Texas A&M, Iowa, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Pittsburgh.

The in-state player is the latest quarterback target Iowa State has successfully landed, along with 2024 signee Connor Moberly as well as the 2023 class’ J.J. Kohl. All three are Iowa natives.

Part of Iowa State’s sell to Manske included putting him in front of Brock Purdy – the former Cyclone set to start in the Super Bowl next week – during his visit to Ames last November.

“It’s definitely really cool,” Manske said of watching Purdy on the field. “I’ve like watched in the four years he was at Iowa State and stuff. Getting to talk to him was a pretty surreal moment – (I was) just thinking, ‘I’m have him in Fantasy Football and then I’m talking to him right now.’ So it was definitely really cool to see him succeed and can’t wait to watch them in the Super Bowl for sure.”

Fittingly, Iowa State beat out Texas A&M to secure Purdy, as well.
