Addy Brown named Big 12 Freshman of the week

The following is a press release from Iowa State Athletics Communications:

IRVING, Texas – For the third time in four weeks, an Iowa State Cyclone has been named the Big 12 women’s basketball Freshman of the Week. Addy Brown picked up the honor this week following two key performances in Iowa State’s (10-4, 3-0 Big 12) wins over Kansas (69-61) and BYU (80-75).

The Derby, Kansas native led the Cyclones this week, averaging a double-double as Iowa State moved to 3-0 in Big 12 play. Brown ranked third in the league this week with 19.0 points per game and second with 10.50 rebounds per game, the only Big 12 player to be top 3 in both categories. She shot 51.9 percent (14-27) from the floor, the seventh-best mark in the Big 12 this week while maintaining her status as the only player in NCAA DI women’s basketball to average at least 15.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game this season.

Brown recorded her seventh double-double of the season against Kansas with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, one shy of her career best. She has posted the second most double doubles by an ISU freshman in the Coach Fennelly era (29 seasons). At BYU, she scored 15 of her career-high-tying 24 points in the second half on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and was perfect from 3-point range with three triples. She currently ranks in the top 40 among NCAA DI players in rebounds, defensive rebounds per game, assists, assists per game and double doubles this season.

Iowa State returns to Hilton Coliseum this week for two matchups with top-25 opponents. Tip-off Wednesday against No. 24 West Virginia is set for 6:30 p.m. while Saturday’s game against No. 4 Baylor is set to start at noon.
