Waukee Northwest’s Cade Kelderman elects to walk-on at Iowa State

Waukee Northwest guard Cade Kelderman (2) steals the ball from Waukee forward Omaha Biliew (0) during the second quarter in the class 4A boys state basketball semi-final at Wells Fargo Arena Thursday, March 9, 2023, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Iowa State has landed one of central Iowa’s top prep basketball players.

Waukee Northwest’s Cade Kelderman announced on Wednesday he’ll join the Cyclones as a walk-on next season. The 6-foot-1 guard chose Iowa State over a host of other opportunities, including an offer from Division II powerhouse Northwest Missouri State.

Kelderman averaged 16.7 points and 5.8 assists per game while shooting 58 percent from the field, 48 percent from deep and 83 percent from the free throw line as a senior for the Wolves.

He played one of his best games of the season in a Class 4A semifinal win over archival Waukee, and fellow future Cyclone Omaha Biliew, by dropping 26 points, including going 4-of-5 from 3-point range, to lead Waukee Northwest into its first state title game. The Wolves ultimately lost to Valley in the final.
