WBB: Cyclones sweep OSU in route to ninth Big 12 win

The following is a press release from Iowa State Athletics:

AMES, Iowa – No. 11 Iowa State (20-3, 9-2 Big 12) cruised to a 76-58 victory over Oklahoma State (6-14, 1-10 Big 12) Saturday night in Hilton Coliseum, matching its best start through 23 games in school history.

A torrid first quarter by the Cyclones ended all suspense. The Cyclones scored on 12 of 15 possessions, made 85.0 percent of their shots (11-13) and led 28-13 after 10 minutes of action.

The Cyclones never trailed in the victory, as head coach Bill Fennelly recorded his 15th 20-win season in his remarkable career at Iowa State.ADVERTISING

Emily Ryan was sensational. The sophomore floor leader poured in a game-high 18 points and led the Cyclones in both rebounds (6) and assists (6). Ryan made all six of her shots from 3-point range, the ninth time in school history a Cyclone was perfect from beyond the arc with six or more attempts.

Lexi Donarski added 17 points and Ashley Joens chipped in with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Joens now has 2,106 career points, 43 shy from the all-time school record set by Angie Welle (2,149, 1999-2002).

The Cyclones cooled off in the second quarter but maintained a 42-28 lead at the break. Joens and Ryan combined for 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting in the first half.

ISU’s lead ballooned to 22 points in the third quarter, as Ryan connected on a pair of bombs. The Cyclones held a comfortable lead for the rest of the game.

The Cyclones are back in action next Saturday (Feb. 12) at TCU.
