ARLINGTON — Let’s just get it out of the way.
Iowa State has a top-10 team entering the 2021 football season and the national media just can’t understand why Matt Campbell still wants to be in Ames.
Predictably, Campbell was asked about other jobs regularly early on Wednesday during the Big 12’s media day event at AT&T Stadium.
“I didn’t get in this profession to be somebody,” Campbell said. “I got in this profession to do something. For me, you’re either trying to be somebody else or you’re trying to do something. I think from my end, what I love about football is to teach. What I love about football is to coach. And what I love about creating a culture where young people feel confident and safe to show up every day and work to become the best version of themselves, where coaches get to show up every day and work to become the best version of themselves, that’s what I love.”
“And I think we have worked really hard to create a culture that allows that growth to happen within our walls, and really, that’s what I love about the sport and that’s really what I love about what I get to do day-in and day-out.”
Now that this is out of the way, enjoy the rest of our content from Dallas that’s about actual football.
Hopefully the Campbell job conversation will shut up for at least the next few months.
