Iowa State women picked third in preseason Big 12 poll

The following is a press release from Iowa State Athletic Communications.

IRVING, Texas – Iowa State women’s basketball team was selected third by the Big 12 coaches in the 2020-21 preseason poll. Iowa State’s selection is its highest preseason nod since the 2008-09 season where they were picked third as well.

In 2019-20, Iowa State finished fourth with a 10-8 league record, capping off the season with a win over league champion and second-ranked Baylor. Iowa State picked up 69 votes, just four away from second place Texas (73) and 19 ahead of Kansas State in fourth.

Junior Ashley Joens and senior Kristin Scott earned preseason recognition by the Big 12 Conference coaches as well, as Joens, who is the Big 12’s returning scoring leader, was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 First-Team. Scott earned honorable mention honors.
