A championship game is coming back to Big 12 football.
Multiple outlets reported on Friday afternoon that the conference unanimously voted to add the game starting with the 2017 season. The conference last played a championship game in 2010.
ESPN’s Jake Trotter reports that adding the game still doesn’t guarantee the conference will be expanding.
The conference leaders will meet again later this summer to make decisions on expansion.
The conference also announced their revenue distribution for the 2014-15 school year that paid out $30.4 million to each school. That number is the third highest among the Power 5 conferences behind the Big Ten and the SEC.
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby also noted that a Big 12 Network is highly unlikely.
