As reported in our earlier article “West Virginia Oklahoma Game in Jeopardy”, data released today from the University of Oklahoma revealed that the University of Oklahoma had 16 positive tests and 24 active cases among student-athletes.

Saw this on a FB post from a WVU site. The article was talking about WVU playing Marshal

If it was any one other than Baylor, I would be concerned for the safety of the team they played last week (I am even a bit concerned for Baylor). I suspected they had a larger outbreak on hand than they admitted to and may have bent/ignored the rules to play last Saturday.

All speculation... but it’s hard to imagine shutting down, getting better, and then shutting down again and being able to play that middle game by the rules.

Or OSU lost and they clinched and no need to play this weekend so they will ‘take the bye’ and get ready for ISU.

Either way... it reeks of bad sportsmanship.

With nothing to play for (other than NY6 standing), added rest, and avoiding possible injuries, I'd be shocked if OU's numbers didn't improve until Friday of next week.

I'm amazed at how well the A.D. and the athletes have done on the Covid. I'm sure there is some luck involved but there is a lot a dedication to get where they have gotten successfully.

I can easily see it being cancelled. With ISU already having the weekend off, cancelling the game would basically place the players in a bubble to lower COVID exposure. Plus OU doesn’t want to risk having a player getting injured!!

I could easily see OU claiming covid and sitting this weekend out. They get a week of rest and don't have to prepare for WV. But there's no way in hell that they skip the CCG. Even if they are playing FR and walk-ons, they will play that game to try to keep their title streak alive.

Nope, it's championship

Im not sure the conference has actually said what happens if one team can't go.

But there's an amusing scenario where OU can't go, and if OSU and Texas both lose to Baylor and Kansas (!), TCU would be the third place team to slide into the title game.

The Big 12 "championship game" is a sham to begin with.

With it's round robin schedule, the Big 12's true champion is determined by the 45 regular season conference games, not the final exhibition game that was created for two reasons, to satisfy the hypocritical selection committee that says the Big 12 "needs another data point", and to make even more money.

The B12 has already said that if the game can't be played due to one of the top two teams needing to cancel, the top team (ISU) would be the overall champion. There was no indication that another team would take a spot in order to play.

Edit: Here is the actual wording
"In the Big 12, the team leading the regular-season conference standings, based on win percentage in conference games, would be declared the Big 12 champion for CFP purposes."

Not exactly sure.

So, if we can’t play, we win? Sounds like a big ten type deal.
