It would be interesting to rank industries based on how hated they are by the general public.

The health insurance industry would probably get the #1 ranking (as demonstrated by recent events). Not sure where the cable/streaming industry would rank, but it would definitely be closer to the top than the bottom.

But in both situations I feel like we are focusing our anger in the wrong direction. The streaming services are not raising prices just because they can. The content providers are demanding higher carriage fees. ESPN is having to pay those exorbitant deals to the SEC that were paying for now. Same with the NFL deals. Every time a conference president goes on the air talking about a new TV deal, expect your bill to go up.

We complain about the cost of health insurance premiums while also not at all concerned about a $200 doctor visit for a cold because you’re just paying a $10 copay. Or all these TV ads for the new miracle drug. You’re paying for those commercials in your health insurance premiums.

I only pay for YTTV when football and basketball are on. Right now I have it paused to save money. Honestly the pirate feeds are so good I don't really need it anymore.

When you do this, do you connect your computer to your TV with an HDMI or what?

I use my computer for everything. It's all just wifi for the TV. Log in with your YouTube, Netflix, etc account. Smart TVs have processors so you don't need to run off a computer anymore but of course you still can.

Lol no. Pirates from a few sites. Stream east is my favorite.

rotate between one or two streamers but never subscribe for years at a time
movies on the countless free streamers with ads
mix in Amazon if the free shipping or whole foods discounts makes amazon effectively free tv
strategic month or two of sling, hulu cable or yttv (only for sports)
sail the high seas once in a blue moon

saves a ton of $$$

I'm just getting so fed up with it all, I am about ready to party like its 1999 and just listen to John & Eric, and watch when ISU is broadcast OTA. That's what I did in my 20s, and I cared a lot more then than I do now.

And honestly, we don't really watch anything on YTTV other than ISU FB and BB - otherwise Netflix and base Hulu and the random free stuff like Pluto are more than we will ever need.

The problem, as always, is that not everyone needs the same 1/8, and the channels negotiate their rates with the streamers\cable cos on the basis of that being paid by every user.

As we've seen with the other non-linear streamers, its unlikely you'd pay much if any less if it were split out. Especially if you're a sports viewer.

I love to crap on greedy companies, but they have also added a decent number of new channels since 2017. Not enough to justify the price increase, but still.

The cost of channels they already carry also continue to get more expensive. Every time the Mouse's contract is up the cost of ESPN networks jump substantially. The same with CBSSN and Fox Sports.

Won’t impact my decisions immediately. But I’m going to be more likely to pause or cancel the service once basketball season ends.
