Simple supply and demand.

Demand has gone up so now prices go up.

people expect to pay $50 for 150+ channels.

The fact is YTTV/HULU whatever you want to roll with is 10000x times better than DISH/DIRECTV.

My father in law pays almost $300 bucks a month for directTV. (3 boxes, movie channels, etc.) And people are complaining about $82?

Technically not correct...you have 5 profiles...all supposed to be in your home.
As long as all users have similar zip codes it’s fine. I’m in Ames and split with someone in DM and it’s been fine but when I tried to split with someone in Cedar Rapids it shut one of us down after a few months

Direct TV most basic package is still $74.99 and that only includes ESPN/ESPN2 (as a sports fan) so lets say as an average sports fan you'd probably want the CHoice package to get more sports channels. That package is typically $89.99. BUT WAIT. You have to pay a couple of fee's, including a regional sports fee! So now you're up to $110.00 a month AND that is on a 24 month! agreement.

I'll stick with my YTTV that will be $82/month and i can cancel with a click of a button.
That doesn't even get to rental fees for ****** equipment that's been paid for 10 times over

Well, the account owner uses the unlimited screens at home and the contributor uses the other 3. A Roku box in another house counts as one of the 3. We’ve been doing this with my mom for over a year now. Works well even though we may have 5 TV’s running in our house at a time.
I ended up going with 4k for this reason. I share with my kids at college and kept getting booted when both kids were on and wife and I were watching something different. Now I'm at least set when I'm at home. Kids aren't paying for it so if they get booted at college then tough.

Does anyone else have trouble with it forgetting your location and network? I just had to reset it again last night after getting kicked out during the women's game. It wasn't on my home network anymore.

Good point. And taxes.

Fact of the matter is you could be paying close to $150 with them.

Hulu Live is about the same price as YTTV is going to. They must've raised theirs recently?

We do the same with my in laws. Since I am more tech saavy, lot of times for sports I just use the sign in for the various apps (ESPN/FOX,etc). It's worked for as long as we have had it

Up over 10%, I am retiring and on a fixed income when I retire December 31st. Will they still have the game show network? How am I going to make ends meet? My wages are not going up! (Trying to practice my retired guy cliches)

I hate to think of our retirees having to downgrade from Game Show Network to Buzzr on a free stream.

Then again

I watched Card Sharks from 1985 last night. Mrs KnappShack said I was way too invested in the game. She was right, but it's goddam CARD SHARKS!!

Also enjoy watching Bob Barker era Price is Right. Not only do I try to guess the price of the items, but there's an extra element of time. How much does a microwave cost in 1983???

My Hulu+ Live increased in the last 30-60 days - bundles with ESPN+ and Disney+.

When comparing it to other services, it’s comparable. But when comparing it to what it was when it launched, it sucks. At launch, it was a service that didn’t provide every channel, but had the ones that I wanted. And it was significantly cheaper than those other services as a result. Since then, they keep adding channels that I’ll never watch but still am going to pay for.

This is why the ESPN/Turner/Fox service was intriguing. It would be nice to get back to offering a sports pack without the extra fluff. I understand that sports is a majority of the cost, but if I can save $20-$30 by not having the 10 news channels, the 3 cooking channels, and all the other channels I’ll never watch, I’d take it.

I had Hulu+ Live TV and just went to regular Hulu with Disney+ and ESPN+. I am sad because I won't be able to watch a bunch of basketball games but the cost was getting too much and trying to tighten up my budget.

What’s the best way to get regular ESPN (not plus) without YTTV?

Ive had Hulu + live for awhile now, cost has gone up (pretty normal) but with Espn+ I think its worth it. I can watch about any game that I want, My cell carrier is my internet and they also pay for netflix and apple tv. Split a few streaming services with friends. I do like the fact that my internet cost is fixed and will not change!
