What was your 1st car?

1973 Charger, SE Brougham. Triple black, 400, slap-stick auto, absolutely great hotrod for a 16 year old. Man I wish I would have kept that car.

1996 chevy lumina.... very reliable never in the shop even with over 120 k miles.... those cars last forever

(Not kidding)

1974 AMC Gremlin, 2-door, fastback

Orange with black trim (the same that Sarah Conner drove in "Terminator")

It was the perfect college car too - once backed into a pylon in Lot #4 behind WOI, got out... looked around... no damage to anything but my vehicle - so I drove away.

Kinda miss that car - could actually fix anything under the hood that went wrong myself. One Winter, a mouse lived in it - he'd come out and complain when I turned the defroster on. A huge upgrade was when I put in a cassette tape player to replace the AM radio.

Memories....

1984 Oldsmobile Starfire, with a leaky sunroof and rear-wheel drive.

After basketball practice, I'd give half the team a ride home. We'd have to pop the hatchback, they'd get me a running start and jump in, because it couldn't handle the smallest bit of ice.

It also would stall up every time I would stop, so I'd slow down to a crawl, they would deploy through the hatchback, and I'd crawl my way home.

It was really a junky car, but it was mine, and I chose it, so any of the junky parts are really on me.

1975 Pontiac Firebird Esprit. Straight Rockford Files. Unspectacular to anyone but me. I fell in love with the car and it's still sitting under a cover at my parents house patiently waiting for a restoration.

1960 Ford Galaxy 500XL, Robin's egg blue.

Snazzy convertible with at least 1,000 lbs of chrome on it. Paid $1,000 for it in 1967 when I graduated from OCS. Went to Vietnam within 6 mo and sold it to a friend.

My favorite was the one I bought when I returned from Nam. 1965 Chevy Impala 396 with solids and a 411 rear end - Canary yellow with black interior. Very rare car that was ordered special with that engine package by the guy I bought it from. I gave $1,700 bucks for it in 1969. I put over-sized jets in the carburetor and air bags inside the rear coil springs and I was able to squeeze 6 mi per gallon out of it. Nice car. produced around 450 horse power (425 factory plus the over-sized jets).Top end was only about 110, but that rear end got me to top speed quickly. I could jump a log off the line. What a sweet car! One of the really great muscle cars. Won a lot of street races in that thing.

1988 cherry red Chevy Beretta 5-speed. Both my sisters had driven it before it was handed down to me. I loved that car. It was fun to drive -- I was only 14/15 with a school permit. Unfortunately, it died the summer after my freshman year of HS when I ran it out of oil

74 Plymouth Fury 3. Had a 400 inche V8 that was actually kind of a dog. Burned gas, A/C and radio did not work. Big trunk.

My first car out of college was a new 90 Nissan Sentra. 1.6 engine with a 5 speed transmission. It was a little underpowered, but was fun to drive and got great mileage. I only had about 9,000 miles on it and got a company car, so got rid of the old girl.

I bought a 68 Bel Air for $100 when I was 14 and beat the hell out of it all through high school.
The front and rear seats were like overstuffed sofas and were more comfortable than my bed.

1964 Chevy Bel-Air. Black. The guy that had it before me had put a stick shift on the floor, with a Hurst T-handle shifter. I was 16....what did I know? After I had it for a couple of weeks, it started to burn oil like crazy. I lived in a small town, and everyone could see where my car had been, or could see me coming by the cloud of blue smoke that was always around. At least I can laugh at it now. It wasn't so funny then.

1979 Vette'......

chevett that is...

Speaking of Chevettes, my buddy had one that we took out for a spin on a gravel road, and he lost it on a little whoopdedoo going about 80. We slid backwards into a ditch, dropped about 10 feet and then rolled three or four times down a fence line. Not a scratch on either one of us. Not even sore. For some reason we decided to wear our seatbelts that day. God was looking out for us.
