Either way as a lifelong Cyclone fan I feel a bit spoiled this year! The best part is that the future looks bright...

It's the first time since the program got back on the map that it doesn't matter which metric you use. Kenpom, Net, RPI, BPI, AP, Coaches, we're pretty high in all of them. Previous years there was always one or two that would be far below the other commonly talked about rankings.

I don't mind ISU being under the radar and lower in the AP right now. Hopefully we can avoid getting everyone's best shot until a few games down the road. You are right though, the homerisms are strong with the BIG10 voting.

Actually I think voting us in at around #16 right now is quite far. We have potential to move up but will actually have to earn it in the 2nd half of league play. The bias will kick in as soon as we lose a game.

On one hand the voters considered the Michigan game a fluke with Michigan only dropping 2 and on the other hand it they say it is a YUGE upset with Iowa jumping 11. It's sort in between and should have been like a 5 spot drop and a 5 spot bump IMHO.

Fun fact (just checked): the 99-00 team also reached #17 about this time of that season.

I'd bet if you averaged it out this is about where ISU generally was during the long ranked streak from 2013-2016.

Doesn't matter for NCAA tourney selection but you know if they hover in this area (or go up!?) the success was at least maintained.

How many times has Iowa been stomped?
Honestly don't pay close attention to them so I didn't know.

Seems like they've been "stomped" 3 times to MSU (2x) and Purdue. Not bad teams to lose to by any means.

2 closer losses @MN and vs Wisc. I won't knock a team for losing on the road in conference too much, and Wisc is a solid team as well.

Joke about them all you want but it seems Iowa has a pretty good team.

I hate that I seem to be defending Iowa but the teams they've lost big to are the following NET rankings:

#8 (twice)
#11

They're other two losses are to:

#12
#52

Kansas State's losses:

#18
#99
#41
#36
#106
This is just data proof for my "eye test"

I don't like Iowa in the least but can't deny they pass that eye test

Way up there
Keep in mind Baylor still has home losses to Texas Southern and SF Austin. And a loss to a terrible Wichita State team.

They've had a very good last 3 weeks but voters shouldn't ignore their first two months.

That should impact tourney selection, seeding etc... but no way should anything that happened 2 months ago be holding a team back now. They are one of the top 25 teams in country today, thats what the top 25 is, it's not a cumulative ranking of the entire year. Don't get wrong, I'm not shedding any tears for them but they should be rated.

The lack of respect for the B12 is sickening. Nobody deserves to be in the top 10 right now but that doesn't make it a junk conference. KState's loss to aTm hurt them but Baylor is playing really good ball. They should be ranked (just threw up in my mouth a little.)
Honestly the Big 12 didn’t do itself any favors in the non conference. (Mainly teams like KSU, Baylor, Texas) Some of the ones that had good non conferences (TCU, Oklahoma) aren’t performing well in conference.

It's not so much Iowa's losses but their losses have been beatdowns.

Iowa is probably a top 18-30 team, but they have VERY clearly demonstrated they should not be ranked higher than that or they'd have been more competitive in losses. If you're a top 20 team you don't have a handful of blowout losses.

In contrast ISU is 9 collective points away from being 9-0 in the top computer rated conference. That's why the computers like ISU better and there's some obvious logic to that.

If ISU and KSU were healthy in non-conf they'd have probably been ranked or closer to ranked when league play started.

Wigginton and Wade were unquestionably top 5 returning players in the conference.

The rankings are pretty meaningless. If you really want to pay attention to something, pay attention to the people in Vegas who compare teams for a living. It always makes me smile when I see the professionals in Vegas favor ISU over teams who are ranked higher than them.

The Drake loss really resulted in that team going under the radar until ridiculously late. ISU was just absolutely crushing the Big 12 before they got ranked.

I'd like to say it doesn't matter but it could have cost the team the #1 seed they had rightfully earned by NCAA tournament time and we all know we ended up playing a road game on a green court.
