WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

What people don't realize is endorsement money doesn't go away when you leave college and go pro. Why would these companies pull their contracts from Clark once she's a pro? She'll make more money than ever once she goes pro and like many I think this is her last hurrah as a Hawk.
As I'm aware of your vocation prior to retirement, I'll acknowledge your expertise in this area. Having said that, I have a serious question about women's pro basketball endorsements. Where does CC get more exposure, college or pro? Nobody watches the WNBA - it's hard to find WNBA games on TV, as I found out when trying to follow Ashley Joens with the Mavericks, Aces & Mercury. In college, CC is a household name and of value to endorsers. As a member of the Indiana Fever, I think she'll be quickly forgotten.

Granted, my wife is not a huge sports fan, but when Jason Sudeikis and Sue Bird attended the EIU game a few weeks ago, she had no idea who Sue Bird was (until I mentioned Meghan Rappinoe). I throw that out as evidence that a spectacular career in the WNBA does not guarantee cultural relevance.

So assuming CC goes pro and joins her boyfriend Conner McCaffrey in Indianapolis, my thought is her star will dim considerably. What would be HyVee's incentive to continue with her as a celebrity endorser? Do you anticipate HyVee drops off but she replaces it with another national brand?

I'm in the (admittedly uninformed) group which assumes her endorsement power is at it's peak as a collegiate player. Please explain why she'll "make more money than ever" if fewer people are seeing her play? TIA for allowing me to audit your Marketing 101 Course!

I don't think she stays for the record or the money. Think it might just boil down to whether it's still fun for her. The NCAA giving away that full extra season has made the career records sort of a joke anyway, at least to me. So who knows. Money? Stats glory? Personal happiness? The challenge either way?

As far as hype, that will drop off some next year but think the Hawks will be better than some people here want to think. There's this notion they will suddenly be lucky to get a WNIT bid. They return enough and add enough to be decent even without Clark. Sort of like us this year (they add five good freshman) but return a bit more experience than we had this year to add to our freshman.

You make some great points. I’m not sure what the answer is. When I think of the WBB players that have been stars I still know who they are post college, but likely couldn’t tell you who they play for. But, they still have major endorsement deals because their names persist in recognizability.

Clark has raised the bar in many minds as to being a fabulous NCAA WBB player. Maybe GOAT and a highly recognized image many young players may aspire to. People not interested in bb or even sports get swept up in the buzz. The money will be there if she moves on to the WNBA.

Iowa has a great class coming in and Bluder and her assistants have a proven record of success. Wishful thinking for the program's demise aside, Iowa has been a dominant force in recent years and the only thing that will take Iowa down is maybe some of what got them there: Lady Luck. I'd say they are due for a few lumps. It is my opinion their hard work has been aided by a string of favorable fortunes.

Sure Bluder has had some dings. Yet the amazing recruits, and major wins, have built up to this point where sustaining the mountain view has become more challenging. Look at Iowa State's recent history for comparison.

We score a McDonald's All-American and she transfers out after winning the Conference Tourney. We get a first-round WNBA draft pick and her career ends in injury as fast as it started. A talented beloved legacy player transfers out to Iowa. We have not scored many top-25 players and when we get close they fall elsewhere and one of the best went to Iowa. We had an alarming gut spilling of talent leaving for reasons unfathomable. We get into the NCAA and we meet up with a team with amazing aptitude and a plan both of which we were susceptible to losing to. Green Bay's Buzz Saw defense and Creighton's exploiting our slow rotation on defense were two instances of this. Loss to Toledo? Maybe it was poor coaching or a lack of multiple threats, but that goes back to not getting some major recruits to aid our stars. There are more examples of just plain lack of good luck that others may think of.

So, Iowa should be good next year. It'd be a miracle if they weren't a winner. Could they see a rough stretch, you betcha. And we could see even better times. (We did win the Conference Tourney last season after many years of trying as Ashley's career ended and the talent bloodletting began).

Polls came out his afternoon and nothing really changed. Top 10 spots, no change at all.

Texas still #5, Baylor still #10.

KSU move 1/2 place from #13 to a tie for #12.

Rori Harmon misses triple double by a 1 REB. 19 PTS and 11 assists in taking down Arizona on the road. Living up to pre-season POY pick

Just noticed Iowa is playing in DSM Saturday versus Cleveland State. Had to look it up and it's a double header with Hawk men going first as a "Hy-Vee Hawkeye Showcase". Men play Florida A&M so might win. Was this a made for Big Ten Network sort of deal? They did put the guys first so people won't leave early.

Not sure this is the ideal "showcase" as it will actually showcases the gulf between their MBB and their successful WBB team and program.

Read Chad leistekow (Spelling?) puff piece of Grandma Clark in Indianola, my thought was why the heck don't Caitlyn's parents let her ride with them to Iowa City? It's a 2 hr ride Sunday afternoon game she'd still be home in time for bed.
