WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

OU has definitely been struggling of late. Lost five of last six, but outside of this last game the competition has been good. Sitting at 6-5 with a brutal schedule.

Those pre-Xmas games are tough to stay focused I was grateful both our men's and women's team finished out prebreak strong.
We saw some of this in the way our men and women came out VERY slow. Fortunately, they righted the ship and won going away in both cases.

Maggie Mendelson from Nebraska has entered the portal. 2 years of volleyball eligibility and 3 years of basketball eligibility.

Few key points-
1. Iowa State needs a middle for their volleyball roster.
2. Originally from Utah, will adding BYU and Utah be any advantage to Iowa State.

VERY CURIOUS to see where she ends up. Honestly would be interested to see if any NIL money is rounded up for her….

Just came here to post that news. Saw on another board that her final teams out of HS were NU, Washington, Minnesota and Texas. Keegan Cook was coaching Washington at the time and now the coach at Minnesota so that's two connections for Minnesota being a player.

Visited the Baylor board with their new baby arena, they are pricing single game women's tkts at 15 and 20 dollars. Not outrageous but certainly does nothing to encourage the casual fan or h.s. team crowd IMO.
I believe the idea behind that arena was to have it closer to full more often and to raise the pricing because of fewer seats available.

$20 is the new $10. ;)

I've been continually having to update my subconscious cost evaluation that comes up when I look at pricing. For a while my internal "cost index" was sort of stuck in 2000 or so.

The only thing that hasn’t gone up is what live local bands get paid. I used to make up to $300 a night back in the late 70’s…today I’m lucky to get $100 And the music is much better today!

Boo this schedule. A week or so with nothing and than two games I want to see conflict with our Cyclones 2:00 game. Guess I'll watch my Gophers for the first half, maybe stream it on the side for the 2nd half. Think it's going to be a close game.

And rare Texas home game not on that damn Longhorn Network.

That Baylor Tx game should be good.

Will the Gophers test Iowa?

I think so, assuming they play as well as they are capable. Can't have a game where they whiff from three like they did versus UConn (6-34). Assume they will try and slow the game down some from the pace Iowa wants to play. They are the #1 defense in the Big Ten so far this season. Everyone's NC stats are a bit skewed by the cupcakes everyone plays but they were #13 last year, so HUGE difference in coaching style and success on defense so far. Iowa, of course, is at the league top ranking #2 in offense. Both teams are near the top of the league in rebounding and threes made per game.

Mara Braun and freshman Grace Grocholski are #2 and #8 in the Big Ten in made threes per game. And good percentages to, 41% and 37%. Gophers, even with Braun's 20/game, are pretty balanced with all five starters averaging over 9 pts per game.

Going to be tough environment though, road game in front of a sellout level crowd. Gophers are 1-0 on the road, winning at Kentucky, but that's their only game away from the friendly confides of William's Arena.

If Harmon is out, and scuttlebutt is it is serious, I think Baylor will be the new pick for 1st. Texas starter Taylor Jones may also be out.

Do you know what name is on the baby arena court? Rumor was that Mulkey wanted her name on it & that was part of the reason why she left for LSU. (Just curious)

Foster family Pavillion on one side, the Mark and Paula Hurd floor on the other. No coaches names at all.
