WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Good for South Carolina.

Do ESPN's announcers ever know that them yelling doesn't make something more interesting?
Sometimes I just wanted them, him especially, to stop trying to describe every single things that was happening. It got so he couldn't finish a thought because the players and ball moved too quickly.

That notation that 25% or so of the kids entering the portal end up nowhere is kinda telling. Not everyone is even going to get an offer. I think sometimes the impression is everybody wins and moves to a better situation. Maybe, maybe not.

Interesting take from Geno. True for the elites, what he is saying. However, not everything that is true for the elites is true for the general run of the mill P6 teams, even ones' that are pretty good.
I cannot tell a lie I enjoyed watching Geno's team get destroyed. Geno is a good coach who has built the best program in the country. When he gets on his soap box it rings hollow because his program isn't like any in the country. He will just get the next 5 star McMerican on his list to choose from.

I think what you are seeing is that the last few years South Carolina is actually recruiting a higher level than UConn and we are closer to parity in the top 10. Geno is now seeing what the other coaches had to deal with since he no longer has the most talented roster in the country.

It was funny to see an article about uconn getting back to the title game since 2016 I believe. Oh poor uconn and their 6 year drought between title game appearances. :D

South Carolina has been tearing it up recruiting but not sure I'd call that some sort of death knell for Geno. He still made it to the championship game in a season handicapped by injuries. Prospects Nation had UConn with the #1 class for 2021 with SC and Dawn Staley right there with a #2 class. UConn has two top 10 players signed for 2022.

Speaking of 2022, here's a linky to Prospect Nations best players and where they are head, Class of 2022.

Top 25 headed to the usual elite teams with one glaring omission, no Baylor recruits. Pac-12 is also rolling in a slew of top recruits. Total Top 25's going to the Big 10 and the Big 12, only one at #25 going to Texas. Big10/12 combined only have 10% of the PN's Elite 150.

Oddity, Minnesota, in the midst of their dumpster fire with only three kids on the current roster has three of the Big 10's Elite 150 recruits. Iowa also has three in the Elite 150, other Big 10 schools not so much. Maryland has only one, seems that maybe Coach Freze's recruiting streak isn't as hot as it used to be. The #2 recruit in the country is from Maryland and she is going to UCLA.

Hmm. Her post specifically does not include the word "coaches."

And more transfer issues of the negative kind for Brenda Frese,

Cyclad pointed out i didn't linky this:

Also losing Angel Reese, their top player.

That transfer portal announcement is different than most. Wonder what here beef with the staff was?

Damn, something's going on. They had injuries this year and never looked as good as maybe they should be but finished okay in NCAA's and got into the Top 10 on coaches poll. Think that #9 was a good five too high and influenced too much by the NCAA tournament and past team performance but the polls always have a degree of BS in them. Even so, the expectations for next year had to be pretty high. Not so high now. Woof.

Owusu should probably look to a team that plays more physical. Big 10 has some good team but all generally play pretty soft. She's pretty physical on offense. Down side for fitting into a more physical team is she's not a great defender and more physicals teams play defense, something Maryland doesn't bother with except situationally. They have the athletes to do it, just not Frese's style IMHO.

Reese leaving is a huge blow. She's going to the #1 in the portal.

Maybe Big 12 related as she is a former 5-star from Texas. Was recruited by Texas in HS. Would also maybe be a possibility for Baylor.
