UNI vs. Illinois State

Illinois state is a really average undersized team. This would be like TCU beating KU then pushing ISU or OU to the wire in our tournament...except TCU has significant talent edge on Illinois State.

Not really this game but as they transition into Wisky versus Ohio State, they show various Big 10 champions holding up trophy with sponsor ads on the screen so for one team it looked like Cialis was the base of the trophy,:biglaugh:

Genius sponsorship. Cialis offers alternatives to having to watch a Big Ten game.

Very, very happy dual fan here!

All of you butthurt fans that can't stand an in-state team other than ISU having the audacity to have a great season are forgiven!

Great comeback in the 2nd half! Nice that both of my teams can hang in there when things are going badly and keep their composure. Hopefully I can celebrate a Big 12 tournament title on Saturday night as well.

Thinking it's stupid WSU was 8th is butthurt?

Sorry but that's called having a grasp on reality.

The volatility towards UNI here is confusing

I don't hate UNI or WSU, I hate the college rating system the rewards teams for winning tons of games against bad competition. Neither of these teams deserve to be in the top 10. They have beaten absolutely no one but each other all year. 5 of ISUs 7 last opponents have been better than either team has beaten all year. I do not include UNI and WSU as a good team, as they are both way over rated. They are top 25 teams, maybe.

IMO, there are some, not all, and not even a majority, of ISU fans who honestly are so insecure that they can not stand to see another team, especially an in-state team, have any success because they feel it takes away from ISU's success, even though UNI is in a different conference and recruits different athletes (with the exception of Jeremy Morgan). H*ll, they only play each other once every other year. Some of these fans have openly admitted this on CycloneFanatic.com.

These silly people do need to be separated out from ISU fans who don't like UNI being ranked more highly than ISU (which, believe it or not, I do get). I'm fine with having discussions with the latter fans; the former group I have no time for. I deal with enough jealousy and anxiety in my job working with adults with developmental disabilities.

I think most people are ok with UNI it's just they're over ranked. With 14 of their 30 wins coming against teams ranked 201 and below makes them a little suspect.

I think UNI is overrated, but I think we end up with a lot of threads and discussion on it that don't say anything new. Most of us know they are overrated. I don't wish them ill in the NCAAs, and would be happy if they knocked off some big name program like Arizona or Duke.

First off, I like you.

Secondly, I don't recall ever calling you stupid for having that opinion. If you can find the post where I did just that I'll apologize.

Look, out of all the numbers thrown around in college basketball, RPI, KenPom, Sagarin, BPI, etc., the AP and Coaches Poll rankings are by far and away the most popular and also the most useless numbers there are. A high ranking is good for exposure, but not much else IMO. And, I will admit that as a dual fan I can afford to be "meh" about rankings, since both ISU and UNI have spent pretty much the whole season ranked. Honestly, it wouldn't trouble me one bit if ISU was ranked above UNI.

Case in point; Murray State was ranked 25th going into their tournament before losing last night to a team that has a RPI of 106 and a KenPom ranking of 147. Great conference season for Murray State, and I do feel a little bad they didn't win last night and take care of business, but I think you can make the argument they never should have appeared in the rankings.

If the Panthers beat Arizona or Duke, Cyclone Nation would scream that Arizona and Duke were way over rated the entire year.
