Are there still placement games outside of the championship?

HS SB canned the 5th/7th games in 2018, and canned the 3rd-place game this year.

What's everyone's feeling that its double elimination this year for the 1st time? Trying to mimic the college game to a degree?

Moravia has been shocking it in the 1A Baseball tournament and is located in a population 600 or so town. They play in the semi's today. Trivia: Who is the most famous Moravia athletic alum? Machine Gun Molly Bolin of the professional Iowa Cornets. An early Caitlan Clark type gunner who was way ahead of her time. Would have made millions today.

and following in her footsteps, Mardi Pfannebecker in the mid 80's on the Iowa State team. She was just as cute, but not nearly the level of player. She was my personal favorite, but was a deep bench guard who only saw minutes in blowouts.

If you are doing double elimination at least have the halves interchange like a double elimination wrestling bracket. Right now it’s double elimination of 2 pools of 4.

Pitching would be an issue if they had to play 2 games in a day or back to back days. Small schools that get to state probably have two good pitchers, maybe three, and then it really drops off.

This double elimination is the worst thing I have seen....the bracket is terrible.

Mt. Vernon and Williamsburg are playing each other for the 3rd time in 24 hours.

Moravia is in the Finals against Newman, 8 vs. 5. Go Mohawks! I’ve never been there but I know enough about HS baseball that you’ve got to have 2 & maybe 3 stud pitchers to do what they are doing. Remarkable for a student body that size. You evidently are familiar with Moravia, any intel about the team or school district?

You can get by with 1 stud pitcher and 1 very good pitcher. The year Gilbert was the runner up, their pitcher throw every inning but one or two. They could do that because that year they started the 2A games on the Saturday before the tournament. Gilbert threw the heck out of that kid that year and lost the championship game to Davis Co. 2 to 1 I believe. The way the 2A tournament lined up that year, the innings pitched did not come into play for those schools.

Boy the camera quality for the boys tourney is terrible. The girls on PBS is a lot better.
