FBS teams have to cover a minimum ticket allotment for bowl games, and I think the FCS schools should be obligated to buy out their ticket allotment on the road at an FBS school. This is especially true for UNI, given Ames is in their own back yard. They whine and moan to high heaven about having lost their games at EIU, so they had better show some appreciation for being handed an opportunity to play at The Jack. ISU is going to bat for them. These games protect their program from financial ruin, so they need to wake up and smell the coffee. As far as I am concerned, if their local fan base cannot buy out their allotment, UNI should just be dropped from the schedule permanently.

Especially as how they are just up the road. If you can't make a 1.5 hour trip for a season opener against an instate team then you are a sad bunch. I can say this since I'm making a 12 hour trip to see it lol

No sure if there will be much UNI crowd or not but really I'm not sure why you would buy the $65 single game tickets that UNI had. Not like they are good seats. Could get 3 games for $99 and sell the other 2 or buy on secondary market for lot less than $65.

There must be some UNI fans that typically show up since the UNI game in 2013 is tied for the highest attended game in Jack Trice history. 3 UNI games are in Jack Trice top 10 attendance. Funny in those 3 highly attended games ISU only won one game against UNI..... by 1 point.

How can the Purple Squawks be in Ames when they are in Iowa City watching the real squawkeyes play.

When I get in a parking lot and see a lot of purple squawk emblems on a vehicle I always look for they squawk emblem and always see them on the vehicle

Just ask a Purple Hawk......How many real squawk games to you attend?...................

Huh?

You don't exactly need a Master's degree in engineering to see that it would be a fairly simple proposition to attend both games this Saturday. Iowa kicks off at 11AM and the game will be over by 2:00 or thereabouts. That gives you roughly 5 hours to make it to Ames, which is what, a 2.5 hour drive at most?

LOL, you need UNI just as much as they need you. They are willing to come to Ames for far less $$$ than any other D1 team that you will be able to find (FBS or FCS). Just take a look at your road game at Toledo in Week 3 for an inkling as to how important that is.

Plus, they represent a team that, if you're lucky, you can actually beat every once in awhile. Win-win for you guys.

We pay FCS market rate for the UNI game.

That's a good point. Plus tickets are probably cheaper on StubHub.

Maybe the thought of losing twice on the same day is too much to handle.

All FCS teams should be dropped. Its a lose lose in 2015.

Agreed, at least for the Power Five conferences. Let FCS teams continue to play Group of Five teams but Power Five should be only playing FBS opponents.

Wherever I go, there I am.
No you don't.

The market rate is $450-$600k. UNI is getting $350k this year and $400k the next two years.

Well, if UNI truly demands $600K per appearance, then UNI should go play the teams that will pay that. Then you can go post on the board of those other teams and and stop ******** and whining on ours. I'm sure no one here will be upset.

It is the fiscally responsible thing to do. Go get your athletic department self-sustaining and then come back here to tell us about it.

Games are scheduled seven years or more in advance. What was the market rate when these matches were contracted? And what is UNI's transportation expenses to Ames compared to any valley foe?

I think it's really sad that we're scared to play UNI because we're afraid we might get beat and get embarrassed.

Man up and play them and beat them like a drum.

This link showing some FCS payouts from 2013 shows our payout right in line with market rate. Considering the easy travel, it would appear to be a solid deal for UNI. If you have a link showing otherwise I would love to see it.

UNI has no reason to cut us a deal. Their AD is financially strapped, so they are going to seek the best deal they can on a game like this, which appears to be ISU.

UNI is certainly getting on the lower end of the market range for a BCS school. Iowa paid UNI $550k last year and $500k in 2012. Wisconsin paid UNI $450k in 2012.

I think a lot of the discount came from the number of games ISU scheduled. UNI got a lot of pay days locked in and agreed to lower amount for that consistency.

By the way, the next two years are $400k or 20% of net receipts whichever is greater. Any amount higher than $2 Million for net receipts to the game and that $400k is going up.
