Games are scheduled seven years or more in advance. What was the market rate when these matches were contracted? And what is UNI's transportation expenses to Ames compared to any valley foe?

That's the trade-off and I should have made it more clear. A bus is cheap. Especially when most of these games are at night and we travel day of game.

Compare that to the $60k it cost to go to BYU a few years ago and we come to The same general place.

Again, these games are mutually beneficial. Iowa State gets a big gate and UNI gets a check and a, usually, competitive game against a Power 5 team. Farley and Dannen have repeatedly said that they appreciate Iowa State playing UNI because other teams won't.

Well, nobody needs any of this.

From the Elon article, $350k is a little low, but still a great deal for UNI. UNI gets more $ for playing the Squaks ($550k in '14). And got more from Wisc, I believe, a couple ears ago.

How much does ISU make off each home game? Counting tickets, concessions, TV, etc? (The Elon article said OhioSt makes almost 6 million per home game)

I do not know sir. I view your question as a rhetorical one. Are you inquiring about the comparison of game day receipts for a 105,000 capacity stadium to one, up until this year, a 56,000 one. It costs a whole lot more to host a contest than to just show up for it. Perhaps a better question would be: how much does UNI net for their home games.

Haha. Well, right. Playing a UNI-ISU home and home would be a loss for both, compared with guarantees at JTS.

Toledo is a Home&Home, right? So ISU gets a JTS home revenue one year and nothing the next. So, averaging, ISU is getting half a JTS home game in terms of revenue.

If $400k is about 20% of a home game (based on post #39 above), getting 80%, plus TV (I'll be chipping in to CycloneTV for the game) etc. is a lot better than 50%. Plus the guarantee $ stays in-state. Which I would think both fan bases would be for.

Now... That's all about $. There is still the issue of wanting a W.
UNI finished 2014 with a Sagarin of 55; Toledo was 73. So ISU might have a better chance against Toledo on the road than UNI at home.

Just like I like Iowa State playing Iowa in football and Iowa State playing UNI and Drake in basketball (now that we don't go to their house), I like us playing UNI in football as well. If we can't beat UNI then we should probably stop pretending like playing a different team would do anything meaningful. We could go 4-8 instead of 3-9 one year - great.

But my opinion about Power 5 teams playing FCS teams in general is the opposite and I hope that the Big 12 (and all P5 conferences) adopts a rule that ends that practice. I would like to see every Power 5 team playing 9 conference games and at least one non-con P5 opponent along with no more than two Group of Five teams each season.

The idea of playing UNI is great, the fact that they are normally a better than average team kind of sucks, especially with our schedule already. The gap between the top FCS schools like UNI and especially NDSU isn't as big as people are pretending.
