It was the kind of game we usually lose one or two of every year even when we're good.

Anyone know why Jackson barely played last night or did I miss something there?

I would guess his number of snaps was pretty normal. Rocco carried the ball 20 times, that's going to limit how many times the backs carry it. Jaylon carried eight times yesterday and is otherwise averaging 10 carries per game on the year, not super-unusual.

I have to vent a bit. There are 2 Iowa fans that have season tickets with me.

One has been going to Iowa State games for years---I've sat near him for at at least 15 years. He has missed 1 or 2 games in that entire time and the only reason you'd know he was an Iowa fan is he shows up in an Iowa hat for that game. But he keeps quiet and is a genuine pleasure.

The other has had season tickets for 2 or 3 years. He never misses an opportunity to tell you he's an Iowa fan, but 'he's cheering for Iowa State today'. And, well, game recognizes game because if someone were to force me to go to Kinnick and pretend that I was cheering for Iowa, I'd behave exactly like he does. He manages to pretend like he's cheering for Iowa State, but he has trouble hiding his gleefulness when things are going badly. It was a real god damned pleasure to listen to him as Iowa lost the game last night and I regret that he left before the game was finished.
I have a friend who is exactly the same way. He never lets me forget that he "cheers for Iowa State when they're not playing Iowa. I know you don't". But then he spends the entire game making snide remarks about Iowa State, Ames, the Big 12, our fans. He pouts when Iowa State wins. They "cheer for Iowa State" until we actually start winning. And if Iowa loses, it's nothing but backhanded remarks the rest of the day. **** em

I've had a few chances this year to remind several Iowa fans that they "cheer for ISU too" so they must be really enjoying the football season so far.

(There are a few who genuinely do, but it's easy to tell the difference.)

Lately every time Jaylon gets a handoff it seems like there's already a defender in his face.

We have three good backs plus a QB who can move his feet a little (and a mobile backup in Moberly!), great problem to have spreading those carries around. The age of the Featured Back is largely over in current football offenses unless you've got a Breece Hall-type.

Seemed like more than 2 late hits.
Bob Huggins would have liked how this was officiated.

They let them play. Holds, interference, late hits. Just didnt call anything almost. It was like they had to be somewhere by 11 and didnt want the game to go long.

And that benefitted UCF, i thought. They came out being physical af on the d line, and the back end played same way.

And so many late or late-ish hits out of bounds or nearly so. Good lord.

I was really impressed with talent level of UCF, their dline gave us problems all night long, their RB is the real deal. Lot of athletes in the state of Florida and if they find a QB, they are going to be a problem down the road.
Hunter on their D-Line is a beast. He single handedly was shoving our Oline back into Bechts operating area.

Jackson would completely disappear beneath him on occasion.
