Trae Young

When a wing or a big closes out on a shooter, which shooter is more likely to get their shot blocked, the 6'1 guy or the 6'5 guy?

And 6'5 Tyshawn Taylor drove the lane just as much as Mason does and had WAY less percentage of his shots blocked than Mason does.

Magic Johnson at 6'2 is just another PG. At 6'9 hes one of the best ever because of his court vision. This isnt complicated.
I was going to simply post a pic of Magic but you have it covered.

Doesn't anyone on here remember Kane posting up hapless smaller point guards who attempted to guard him?

Height and length - as long as they don't come at the expense of other qualities - are an asset anywhere on the floor; it's just one of the quirks of the game.

It's extremely likely that neither of them get blocked, but I suppose the taller guy has a slightly lower chance.

It's not Taylor's fault that Mason has no understanding of how to spin a basketball of the backboard. Mason would get blocked a lot less if he didn't try to throw them right at the rim. Taylor was able to do that from being taller, though.

If Johnson lost seven inches (and likely like 30-40 lbs), I have extreme doubts he would've been as good as he was in that role. Find me another 6'9" PG that's as good as him, there will always be an exception.

It seems to me that in general, taller players are not better ballhandlers. They aren't as good at protecting the ball and are more prone to steals than shorter, faster point guards. No one is going to have a 7'1" gooner running the ball regularly. Ideally, it seems to me that a "perfect" point guard for college is around 6'0"-6'2, 180-190. Good balance of speed, agility, and size. Then again, maybe I'm just biased because that's the range that most NCAA PG's tend to be in, so there's just a higher availability of that type of player.

He needs to be really good day one. Luckily he's coming from Oak Hill so I think he will be ready. He's by far their best player right now even though Preston is a better long term prospect
I thought Prohm would be able to bring him along somewhat slowly through out the first couple months of the season but after the game Donovan had last night I'm not so sure. Woof!

Yeah, but he also bought a cure for AIDS so it's not really a fair comparison.

We already did sign a backup PG to develop in Marcus Garrett, except he's 6'5" instead of Wiggington's 6'1". So we're covered at that end of the bench, thanks.

I don't think he is ready to play point just yet. His handles need tightening up.

This is generally true, but for a good part of a season one year this is all the Timberwolves had for a PG and they probably overplayed their talent level.

At the same point in their career? Yes, 100%. Freshman Selby was light years better than freshman Mason.
Ehhh. Light years may be a stretch to say. Selby avgd 8 per for the year, compared to 5.5 for Mason.

And there's no doubt Selby fell off pretty bad toward the end of the year. He only avgd 4 pts from middle of February till the end. Which is the exact same as Mason from that same point. Maybe he was hurt, I can't remember exactly, but I do remember him being a giant disappointment.

Selby was averaging 12 points a game prior to injuring his leg in practice inearly Feb, an injury that plagued him the rest of the season.

I think I'd rather him go to KU, they're going to get top end talent regardless and I'd rather be better than OU

Insert foot in mouth. At least I was right telling Tuco that Wigginton is much better than Marcus Garrett though

The guy is really fun to watch. Wow. I only have seen a few minutes of the Wich. State game, but it was really enjoyable to watch him play ball. The comparisons to Steph Curry are fairly apt in my opinion. I am happy to have talent like this in the Big XII - makes the conference more fun and beating OU in Hilton that much sweeter;-)

Hope he sticks around for more than a year. He could have a special career and OU could be scary good if they add another big time piece or two to their puzzle. They're clearly a Tourney team with him right now. He puts the ball in places where guys can finish and makes everyone around him better. Much like Monte used to do for us.

Edit: all that said, TUCO still could be right and they might only be a .500 Big XII team. I would think an accurate prediction for OU in the Big XII would be 10 - 8 or 9 - 9 or so.

While he isn't the prototypical NBA body we have to remember that the NBA is a sports league but also entertainment. There will always be room for a guy or two in the league that is significantly smaller if he can play at a high level. There are a lot of fans who become big fans when they can root for the guy (underdog) who they can relate to. They can see themselves as the 6' guy who could make the NBA while they may not be able to relate as much to the 7 footer. The goal may be to win a championship but just as important is to sell tickets and merchandise.

Someone mentioned Tyus. It isn't an accident that that particular undersized guy ended up with the T-Wolves. A local kid who was once a practice player for the sister team Lynx making the T-Wolves roster? It is a great story that captures the hearts of Minnesota basketball fans. And yes, it sells tickets and jerseys.

If Trae can keep up play at anywhere this level through conference play I would not be surprised at all if a team took a shot at drafting him.

He is so fun to watch but not looking forward to playing against him. Good thing is he will only be there 1 year.

He's a sure fire lottery pick and has been for awhile now. He's a true point and one of the best shooters in college bball. His ability to get to the line is pretty crazy too.

I think 12-6 is probably more accurate. They are clearly a top tier Big 12 team with one of the best coaches in the conference.
