TJ bio . . .

If you listened to Reid Forgrave yesterday inside college basketball circles, TJ would be considered a great hire. Im on board with him

Reid also said TJ was a Hoiberg disciple. Well......he was actually a McDermott disciple. Then he became a Hoiberg assistant. Fantastic recruiter, no doubt. Charismatic. But....im wary of anything associated with Chewbacca. As long as TJ takes what he learned from Fred and not what he learned from McDoormat, I'm ok with it. But......does anyone know he will definitely run a Hoiball - type system? I see a lot of assumptions. But no mention of TJ's original mentor.

It's a total mystery. Like most coaches, if he's hired, he'll say words like "uptempo," but nobody really knows what he would run when it's his call, just like we don't know how much he can devote to recruiting from the head chair.

You can learn from mistakes. Having worked for GMAC doesn't phase me one iota.

Im confused here. TJO has only had success as a coach when Fred was at the helm. In all of the other years as an assistant, his teams were mediocre at best. Can he recruit? Yes. Did he develop any of them worth a ****, besides when Fred was coach?

I love everyone retweeting Goodman's post about Fred's early success was mostly because of TJO. Give me a break. If thats the case, then he needs credit for all of the ****** seasons with McDermott and Washington also. Can't have it both ways.

I will support TJ if he becomes the head coach but I won't support Pollard if he doesn't even conduct a proper coaching search. Especially with a top 10 program! This is the biggest hire of his tenure and it seems like he is taking the easy way out.

If TJO is truly the best we can get, then so be it. I just feel like we would be settling. Just my opinion.

McDoormat had some success at UNI and at Creighton, it doesn't bother me if Otz learned a thing or two from him. I also think Otz played a bigger role than people realize Fred's first few years.

Recruiting is the most important thing in basketball, and Otz can recruit here. He just needs to hire a strong staff, and I have no doubt he can do that.

That said Hornacek is my top pick, but I wouldn't be upset if Otz got the job. He is set up year one to take us further than Fred ever has.

The longer this has gone on the more im leaning toward wanting TJ to be the next guy in line regardless of whether or not hes actually ready for several reasons. The only other guy i would want at this point ahead of him is Hornacek.

I think TJ's resume as an assistant is great. There is no doubting that. My biggest concerns are why he isn't getting looked at by low major or mid major schools for a head job.

Drake wouldn't even interview him 2 years ago. And his only other two interviews were going to be Northern Kentucky and Green Bay this year. And now he is the front runner to get a Power 5 job that's been in the Top 15 for the last 2 years and has a powerhouse roster coming back. That doesn't worry anyone?

Why weren't the Green Bay and Northern Kentucky interviews in his bio? Otz was wanted by other programs and ISU is going to get him. It's something to be proud of.

Because he cancelled those interviews when he decided to come back to ISU. I am fine with TJ as he will not try and change from Hoiball to something boring as hell like the tiny 10.

How do you know that's Otz or his people didn't flat out laugh in Drake's face? How do you know that TJ hasn't or has been on lots of schools lists or possibly even interviewed for other jobs? None of that has to be made public. If there is one thing that everyone should have learned probably like 15 years ago is that there is a lot more going on that people NEVER know about than actually comes to light for the public.

You could be right but you're grinding pretty hard on a lot of speculation.

The guy who got an interview with some low major directional Wisconsin school is going to get to take over a top ten team.

I'm not opposed to Otz, but you can't argue that this is a bit of a shot in the dark from what is a position of power.

And I don't buy the "this is the best we can do" or "this is the reality at Iowa State". Bull ****.

TCU lured LSU's coach. Texas Tech hired Tubby Smith. Those are junk jobs. Tulsa hired Frank Haith. Alabama hired a former NBA coach. I could go on and on.

So either Pollard is settling on his guy or he is the worst AD in the history of coaching searches.

You raise a good point. This conference is full of extremely experienced coaches. And the keys to the presumed favorite to win the conference (ignoring Kansas for a second) is going to be given to a rookie.

Or Fred is still our coach and Jamie hasn't been able to formally interview anyone yet.

When will this end? I doubt JP was meeting with the search firm in ATL to tell them that their services won't be needed. The search is on and probably has been for a few weeks.

It was out there that TJ was ****** he didn't sniff the Drake job. It was reportedly one of the reasons he left to broaden his horizons under a new coach and new program.

Chewy ain't doing so hot now that Doug is gone. Jacobsen has had a lot more success at UNI than Chewy did. I don't want anything to do with the McDermott era, philosophy, methods, etc. Those were some of the saddest days of my Cyclone fandom. I'm paranoid that we could revert back to that hole.
