TJ bio . . .

Or Fred is still our coach and Jamie hasn't been able to formally interview anyone yet.

I hope you are right. And if TJ is the guy, I hope it's because he blew everyone away in his interview and not because he is Pollard's buddy. But this whole "We are Iowa State, we can't get any better. No one wants to come here." Is complete horse ****.

And I don't buy the "this is the best we can do" or "this is the reality at Iowa State". Bull ****.

TCU lured LSU's coach. Texas Tech hired Tubby Smith. Those are junk jobs. Tulsa hired Frank Haith. Alabama hired a former NBA coach. I could go on and on.

So either Pollard is settling on his guy or he is the worst AD in the history of coaching searches.

How far can you go on with a list of the successes of those schools since these guys took over? Bar Hornacek, everything is a shot in the dark, you're trying to create different shades of total darkness at this point. If you can't see you can't see.

At least we could say that we're going from having one of the best coaches in the country, to one of the worst. (Until proven otherwise)

I agree with you there. My point is people thinking TJ is the best we can do. He isn't.

If TJ is the best candidate and Pollard thinks he can have the most success, then great. But these "target one guy" coaching searches are what I have a problem with. It worked for Hoiberg, sure. It hasn't really worked with Rhoads. But our basketball program is at its pinnacle right now. When the other two were hired, both programs were ****.

This is is a huge, huge hire. I want to get the best possible person.

Arizona State just hired Bobby Hurley and immediately started attracting some big time talent. Auburn hires bruce Pearl and immediately lands big recruits

Someone photoshop Otz's face on the baby.

Or, Pollard has fully taken Otz's measure during Otz's seven years in Ames and knows perfectly well what he and Iowa State would be getting with an Otz hire. JP hit a home run (or a three-pointer, if you prefer) when when he went to left field (or the deep corner) to hire Hoiberg, who had a zero coaching pedigree.

JP isn't savvy enough to know that filling this job opening with a winner isn't crucial to his success as an AD? If JP offers the job to Otz, good enough for this fan. Again, it's worth mentioning, JP and Otz have had an up close working relationship for seven years. Seven years . . . Otz is fully vetted. If JP believes Otz is the man for the job, he's going to take the risk. Bet on it.

Ya that sucks that we won't have someone that will continue our ongoing and historic domination of KU in the past forever.

Won 2 out of 3. Not sure what the exact numbers are, but I don't think another coach in the big 12 had a better record against Self than Hoiberg. (Starting in 2011)

You guys know Otz used to do the game planning right? And brought in a lot of the players responsible for Freds success right?

Dont disagree with anything you said. Only that this situation is completely opposite of his past hires. He could afford to take big risks. The programs were in the cellar then and needed a jump start.

The basketball program is arguably as high as it's been in history. We don't need a risky hire. We need someone who will continue its path. And I'm not convinced someone without head coaching experience is the way to go. Especially if we locked into our guy without seeing what else is really out there.

He also had similar responsibilities at Washington. And they were bad. And under McDermott. And we all know how that went.

You can't give Otz credit for success under Fred and then ignore the other 8 seasons where the teams were bad. It doesn't work that way.

Yeah, but who here on the list is in position to know who that person is? I wouldn't trust any fan -- anyone here -- to pick the next coach.
