The way too early '09 prediction thread

No matter what anyone predicts, I am sure we will all feel like we were kicked in the "cashews" once again at this time of year in 2009.

I'm certain that we'll be improved and that our schedule will be easier next year. However, we're so terrible right now that its difficult to figure how that will transfer into wins. I'd guess 4-5 wins, but who knows. Hard to figure out how these same players are going to be good enough to have a winning record. Maybe if we pick up a couple jucos on defense that can contribute right away.

I would like to see an Upgrade at QB. I'm not sure AA has the ability to go out an just win games. He is good, not great, just good.

If Tiller is "all that and a bag of chips", he should be able to pick up where AA left off and take this team to a next level. I think the D will improve a little (alot would be great, but don't expect that), but the Offense must also be better.

It will be interesting to see if GC makes any coaching changes? I'm not saying OC or DC, but other coaches.

If we go 2-10 next year I am done.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking. They are going to be in for some rough times if they only get a few wins next year. Because the following year we go to Play Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech, Plus Nebraska and CU should be a lot better.

Most people are predicting 2-4 wins next year and everyone knows that 2010 will be horrifically worse.

Yeah, we belong in this conference...just as we always have.

Looks like Boise State and Utah are having pretty good seasons. They're both in the top 10. I know BYU and Ball State feel pretty good about where they're at as well. Cinci is #19 w/2 losses.

I've watched a lot of their games on ESPN (since it seems they're always on) and they've had packed houses.

It's fun to watch and I imagine be a part of as a fan.

Yeah, with never playing college football before, I can't imagine that he wouldn't just come right in and take us to the next level. Afterall, he's looked good in practice...against our defense.

Iowa * - This one's a toss up, could go either way. If Greene's back we'll be in trouble. I would expect Iowa to be favored by 7 going into this one.

Kansas State W- gotta get out on the right foot in conference play, K-State will have a first year coach and QB, so I think we should be able to win this one.

@Kansas L- this will be a high scoring game, but since Reesing will be back and it's on the road, we will probably lose.

Baylor * - This might be the most important conference home game as it would be a telling sign of how we would do the rest of the way. If we win it would be huge for our team. I don't know if we will be able to stop their offense, since they torched us this year.

@Nebraska L- I don't see us winning this one, we haven't won in Lincoln for forever, and Nebraska returns a bowl caliber team next year.

Texas A&M * - Another toss up, if the defense can make stops, we will win. Remember '05.

Oklahoma State L- Okie State's offense will probably be too much for the defense to handle. We will probably get crushed again.

Colorado W- Defense will be key once again, since CU has one of the weakest offenses in the Big XII. Seniors will come out with intensity which will propel us to a win. I think we will win close.

@Missouri L- Mizzou will still be too tough for us to handle, we lose by more than two TDs.

What do you all think?

I don't completely agree with your analysis. Don't know if you have looked at the returning starters for the other Big 12 teams, but is not looking good for anyone.

I believe Kansas St will be the worst team in the Big 12 next year- and for years to come. They are too stacked up with questionable JUCOs to make any noise, any time soon.

I agree that Kansas will be a tough game and that we will probably lose. I think Kansas may win the north next season- if not Kansas, it may be us.

I don't think Nebraska will be a bowl bound team. They lose 7 starters on offense, including their QB, RB, and their two top WRs. They also lose 5 on defense, including 2 along the line, 2 linebackers and a cornerback. That is allot of holes to fill. If they make it to a bowl game, they will barely get in. I agree that it will be a tough game in Lincoln, but we will diffidently have a shot.

I'm not sure what to think about Colorado. On paper, they should be at the bottom of the Big12 next season. They have no offense and their defense is losing 7 starters. The North will be bad next year, which will give Colorado some hope, but I just can't see them making any noise in the Big 12.

I want to think that Missouri will once again piece together a good season, but they are losing 7 on a already leaky defense and 5 on offense (which includes 2 receivers, 2 lineman and a certain QB). I think that if their new QB can put together a semi descent season, they will once again go to a bowl simply because they still have allot of talent on offense, but they won't be ranked at the end of the season and I don't see them winning the north. We should have a legit shot at Missouri.

The key is defense. If Chizik can figure out what is going on with the defense, I think we will be able to beat almost everyone- except Ok St and I agree with your thoughts on Iowa. We will definitely have a legitimate shot at everyone, simply because of how bad the north will be next year. Just think about returning this offense with one more year of experience and hope for a much improved defense- we will be able to play anyone. If we can't improve the defense, we may win a few more games simply because everyone's offense will be worse, but we won't go bowling.

ISU being apart of the Big XII >>>>> ISU being apart of any other conference.

Yes this team needs to start all over a QB again. It is just what they need the 3rd different QB in 3 years. They just need to bench the QB whos season totals in passing yards are 3rd all time for 1 season, 700 yards better than Wallaces Jr year. Bench the player that owns most passing yards in a game record and the single game completion record. Bench the QB that didnt have much of a running game and whos line was young, not very good and had a lot of injuries. Bench the QB that had split time earily in the year to keep his backup happy. Yes bench him.

I think everybody's just down right now - it was a very disappointing season that fell far below my expectations.

We lost a lot of games by substantial margins, and we lost some close games. A big difference between '07 & '08 - even in the big losses - was that the losses were methodical in '08. In '07, we'd fall behind by huge margins and spend the rest of the game playing against reserves.

It's clear, IMO, that ISU will have a POTENT offense next season. Captian obvious, but the key lies with the D. As I stated in other threads, I don't expect the D to be dominant next year - but I do expect improvement and I do expect to see us at least limit the over the middle stuff that KILLED us this year. It wouldn't have taken that many more third down stops in '08 for ISU to have had 5 - 6 wins. I believe this staff, the players coming back - including the redshirts - and hopefully well placed player(s) coming in will change the fortunes of the D. Again, not to a dominant D, but a D that can get off the field much more often. ISU is simply not that far away. And the Big XII will be weaker, most notably the North.

I think ISU goes bowling in '09.

Thank you for responding to that original idiot. Anyone that thinks Arnaud is not the best qb on this team/doesn't have what it takes to win are idiots. Period. Absolute idiots. How many times has he driven the length of the field with very little time and made clutch throws? Either we score and the defense screws up, or we were digging out of too big of a hole, or we would have a dropped pass. QB IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

You say that now but you will be back in 2010. We are just like Cubs fans. After this past year I heard so many people saying that would never cheer for the Cubs again. We all know those people will be back once spring training starts. We are the same way. Once that spring game comes, people will be coming back.

Great post. AA has more ability than all but one QB Ive seen at ISU in my lifetime.

Was it AA's fault that we ran an option on the last play against Colorado. AA was running the offense well as they went down the field, it was only after the coaches got involved that the team didn't go anywhere.

Was AA fault that they had a touchdown called back because of a hold against Kansas St. Was it AA fault that the receivers dropped ball after ball after ball all through the season.

Reesing, Daniels and Ganz all had the same number or more interceptions as AA- and all three have one more regular season game left to play. McCoy, Ganz and Reesing were all sacked more times than AA. Bradford, Reesing and Robinson are all within 6% completion percentage of AA (and remember all those dropped balls earlier this year).

The only glaring difference in numbers, between AA and any other QB in this QB rich conference, is that AA has less yards per completion and fewer touchdowns. You really can't put all the blame on AA for those stats. As a team we struggled in the red zone and WR's are not breaking tackles. AA has had a very good year in very bad team.

His numbers are the most impressive of anyone in this team. If you are going to single someone out, why not LJ who has blown coverage time after time, or anyone else in the secondary for that matter. If Tiller is better, he should be starting ahead of AA, but I don't want this to end up like last year between AA and Bates where we just put Tiller out to run the football. Come'on, criticize the players that desire to be criticized- not the one's that have set records.

If Chizik is the defensive mastermind that he's supposed to be, then we should see improvement with the D over the off season.
