Lou Holtz just said during the UCONN & Pitt game that he thinks the Big East is dead. Everybody wants out.

He also said what about the teams that get left behindin the conferences, the KU KSU teams and such. Funny how they come to mind before ISU, when everyone in the media was making us out to be the chicken**** school with nowhere to go and nothing to give when the Big XII was blowing up:skeptical:

Ready for some ND bball?

The last few days makes it sound like UT and OU are always in opposite corners except when things go to hell in a hand basket.

Also, I don't know if anyone has brought this up, but JP on monday during the call in show said that ISU was in favor of staying at 10 teams to get that $$$$

I don't find a lot out there to indicate the Big 12 has been targeting an immediate return to 12 teams.

I wish they did, because I think it would bring about the most opportunity for our football program.

I'm sure this article was posted before, but I can't believe how they left out all the blatant Big 12 is dead talk ESPN was spouting when they have interest in the PAC, SEC, ACC, and Texas as a school by itself. Article claims they were looking out for their big 12 "partner" at one point. I want to know the story behind their random Baylor and Iowa State reaching out to the Big East crap they decided to run that one Saturday.

I really don't believe anything in reallignment right now until the team plays their first conference game. Just yesterday the media made it seem like WVU was in the BigXII already.

Stay at 10 for how long? Couldnt the Big 12 get an agreement NOW for future membership in 2 years, or 3 or 4.

He didn't say, he just said that money was the most important thing right now, and 10 teams was the best way to get money. Probably until our TV contract expires

Wow... A whole 2 million a year until we re do tier 1. Not even that much if all the newbies come in at a scaled down price for a few years. They need to think long term, not just a quick cash grab.

Whoah! I leave for a little bit, and when I get back there's ANOTHER 17k post thread on realignment? Great work CFers! :jimlad:

Seriously though, when/why did it get renamed (yes, I could possibly look it up through 1200 pages of threads, but a simple reply would suffice).

It actually was renamed at about 8:30 I think.

I lean this direction as well. Have we learned nothing over the last 15 years? Short term gain seems so much less important than long term, possibly permanent stability.

Actually that money could be long term. What are another three or four years of football insignificance compared to our programs history? With that extra money we can upgrade facilities even more. I think once Rhoad's recruits finally get up into the depth chart this team will be able to compete in bowl games every year in a 10 team conference anyways.

But were already going to be getting almost double what we were in the past. imo, Plenty to pay off these improvements.

This is starting to sound like staying at 10 really is about Notre Dame. If the Big XII thinks it can snag the gem of the college football world (and to all the Notre Dame haters, yes, they aren't great on the field but what other SOLO SCHOOL has their own, exclusive network deal?) then I highly doubt that we'd fill it up to 12 teams if (as the rumors have always been) ND won't join a league with more than 12 schools.

HOWEVER, why not add Louisville, WVU and play a sched. like the B1G did for nearly 20 years? No championship game for UT and OU, better chance for Iowa State to get a bowl with Louisville added in and eventually more money due to an expanded footprint. I wouldn't be surprised if Notre Dame, who may be sensing their ability to stay indy long term is fading, isn't waiting to see what kind of money they could make from joining the Big XII after the next go around.

Just my 2 cents

Hearing from sources WVU might have slight edge in Big 12 again. As many as four schools may back Louisville. Not a Texas vs. OU thing.

Because of the messy, awkward situation, two sources say Big 12 might consider Louisville and WVU together as a compromise.

Two other people with direct knowledge said that the lobbying of the Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, had helped Louisville. His communication with Oklahoma’s president, David Boren, a former senator, and Texas Tech’s chancellor, Kent Hance, a former congressman, played a role in raising Louisville’s fortunes. Hance confirmed that McConnell called him to push Louisville.

A couple senators and former sentor/congressman get involved and we may get both teams. Does anyone else think this was a media ploy by the political types to get to 12 teams rather than stopping at 10 (Texas preference)?

That makes too much sense...which if the last 3 months are any indication, means it won't happen.
