In the end if WVU doesn't get in and with MU's rebuff by the BIG every school will have to remember the rules in realignment...

Rule #1: You do not talk about realignment.

Rule #2: You do not talk about realignment.

If there is just one, I'd much rather it be Louisville. We can better compete with them and they are much closer. It isn't just the distance to the campus, but, for WVU you fly to Pittsburgh and drive another hour and a half, one way. For the mid-week olympic sports events - that's significant.

David Boren may get us a Congressional investigation yet.

That said, he may be setting the table for WVU to go to SEC instead of Missouri and allowing ND to become a member at some point.

According to the report, it is going to only be a 6 year grant of rights if we go with Louisville. OU would give up pushing for ten years if Louisville is taken in. UT is one school that has been balking at more than a six year GOR.

Potentially a ten year GOR is possible if OU wants to hold onto that card with WVU and play some hardball.

So did I read the KC star report wrong? If we go with West Virginia, we will have at least a 10 year Grant of Rights?

Not necessarily.

The way I read the report, the schools had already proposed a six year grant of rights. OU is pushing for ten, which they would drop if we were to accept Louisville. They are throwing UT a bone here, since the Horns are the ones who have balked at a long term grant of rights.

I assume that, if WVU were to be brought in, OU could revisit the 10 year rights deal again. But it seems like posturing.

Let me just step back and look at the big picture here for a minute. Why exactly is Missouri leaving again? If a 10+ year grant of rights holds true, they will have gotten every concession they asked for

1. Equal revenue sharing
2. 10+ year grant of rights
3. No high school content on Longhorn network

And there is big talk of a Big 12 network. Money will be very similar to the SEC at the end of the day. Missouri will lose Texas recruiting pipeline. Missouri will lose KC bball tourney. Missouri will get the KC fanbase upset with them. Missouri will have longer travel. Missouri will get passed over for bowl games more often. Missouri will lose more games. Missouri will pay a massive buy-out fee.

What in the world are they thinking by going to the SEC East? Waiting for Mizzoulander to come up with some crazy and illogical response in 3...2...1...

Yeah, its not like both aren't quality adds. And if you're wanting WVU, it makes a lot of sense to add UL to make that add a bit more geographically friendly.

Big 12 still torn between Louisville, West Virginia

Is adding both schools really off the table? If so I am very disappointed.

Boy how things are getting out of hand. 2 Months ago I WAS SCREAMING for our politcos to get involved.

Now I want all the politicians out. They can only mess this up.

Think Rebecacy was right, seems like OU has longer term interest at heart

A high-ranking official at another Big 12 school said the league was divided about whether to invite West Virginia, based on its premier football program and greater athletic success, or opt for Louisville, a marquee basketball school in closer proximity to all Big 12 members.
He said he believes Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor and Iowa State favor Louisville while Texas is one of the schools that prefers West Virginia.

And if you think T Boone runs the show for OSU, then if the KC star article is right, that'd be 5 votes for Louisville out of 9 if TCU gets a vote.

Add Louisville first so we can't stop at 10.

I don't know how I feel about this thread name getting changed.

I am totally opposed to powerful people changing the names of threads, just because they can.

I am the 1%.

Most intriguing part to me, although it depends on the integrity of the source: "He said he believes Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor and Iowa State favor Louisville while Texas is one of the schools that prefers West Virginia."

I'm sure there are theories why this is true, but it's the first I'd heard of that, so I'm curious.

***Geography note — I'm glad geography is at least part of the discussion. If West Virginia were located near Memphis, it'd be moot.

Since the Big 12 seems to have no true focus as far as "who belongs, who doesn't" — travel has to be a consideration. You'd think it'd be a major consideration for the team coming in — closest school is, not so much for the current Big 12 members. Am I wrong — isn't Iowa State the closest school in the conference to West Virginia (with assumption Missouri leaves)? About 14 hours driving time ... closer to ISU than Austin/Lubbock. Tech's travel distance to Ames is less than most conference teams' distance to WVa.
