*****The Super, Mega, Huge Big 12 Expansion Thread*****

Seriously, pop some popcorn and go read the WVU and Louisville message boards tonight. They are at each others' throats tonight.

I think the Big 12 may be working on a proposal to bring them both in to the league, if they can get some concessions from each on the monetary stuff for a while. They'd both be nuts not to take it, if offered. Hope they don't get ****** off enough to screw it up.

I never thought watching two schools develop an instantaneous fresh hatred for each other would be such an entertaining read....

Well then how about this gem of a thread by a U of L fan?

The title is kind of misleading. This thread is like Colorado has a lot of peaks and valleys.

Now it's political football in the Big 12 with realignment - KansasCity.com

On Tuesday, the Big 12 Board of Directors met on a conference call, and the expected result was the approve West Virginia's invitation into the conference.
The Big 12 was prepared to send a delegation, led by interim commissioner Chuck Neinas, to Morgantown, W.Va., for a ceremony.
But on the call, some sentiment was expressed for Louisville, like West Virginia, a member of the Big East.
A source familiar with the call told The Kansas City Star that Oklahoma supported Louisville, while most others, including Texas, favored West Virginia. And the board went into the meeting with the idea of inviting only one.
Also on the table, according to a source, was grant-of-rights. Texas favors six years, Oklahoma at least 10. Boren was willing to give in on the reduced grant-of-rights in exchange for support for Louisville.
On Wednesday, Oklahoma State mega-booster T. Boone Pickens told The Oklahoman that wasn't sure about West Virginia.
"We'll, I've got to be convinced on West Virginia," Pickens said. "I haven't seen anything on the school."
Asked specifically about his concern, Pickens said distance.
"As I remember, you fly into Pittsburgh then drive a couple of hours. That's pretty isolated."
Could the Big 12 invite both? According to a source, the league was intent in stopping at 10 for now and waiting on Notre Dame to determine if change is in its future

I think it's interesting that T Boone even had a voice on what the B12 should do.

Would you guys choose Louisville if it meant a 10 year grant of rights was in place?

However, another person with knowledge of the situation, also speaking on condition of anonymity because of the negotiations are not being made public, said West Virginia was preparing Tuesday to announce the move with a news conference on campus with Big 12 officials on Wednesday.
The school and the league also were working on a news release when university leaders received a call from the conference telling them to put those plans on hold, the person said.
“I think all of this should have great clarity within the next 10 days or less,â€￾ University of Oklahoma President David Boren said Wednesday after a regents meeting in Lawton, Okla.

The person said it is unlikely the Big 12 would go the 12-team route and invite both West Virginia and Louisville in the process.

West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, in a statement emailed to the AP, said an investigation might be in order.
“If these outrageous reports have any merit—and especially if a United States Senator has done anything inappropriate or unethical to interfere with a decision that the Big 12 had already made—then I believe that there should be an investigation in the U.S. Senate, and I will fight to get the truth. West Virginians and the American people deserve to know exactly what is going on and whether politics is interfering with our college sports,â€￾ he said.

I'd never thought I'd see the day when schools in BCS conferences (sort of, if the Big LEast counts) fighting to get into the Big 12.

According to the report, it is going to only be a 6 year grant of rights if we go with Louisville. OU would give up pushing for ten years if Louisville is taken in. UT is one school that has been balking at more than a six year GOR.

Potentially a ten year GOR is possible if OU wants to hold onto that card with WVU and play some hardball.
