Tennesee State Thread

My kid plays in the Ohio Valley so I've seen TSU a couple of times. Their 3 guards are pretty good. The PG, Harris, runs the team well. He's had previous stops at Georgetown, Virginia and Memphis so obviously he's talented. The other two guards are long and athletic. Both are 6'6ish and can get super-hot from 3 and they have no conscious. The elevation they get on their jumpers is pretty impressive. They have zero inside game. They play a 6'0" power forward about 10 minutes a game.
Wow, talk about out Kenny Pratting Kenny Pratt...

Look up their roster. That was a flat out lie. So was the assessment of the 3 point shooting. One is not bad, again playing horrible competition (40ish percent), the rest of the shooters who play are not great.

The ever so rare 15-3 match up.

The last time I can remember that happening is four years ago when St. Peter's played Purdue in the Sweet Sixteen. You can probably rightly guess which team was which. And St. Peter's won!

We've already lost to wildcats twice, bearcats, cougars - now tigers? This could be CATastrophic for ISU.

Guards with length can be a problem and I'd guess they'll go after Buchanan, Pleta and JJ to create foul issues.

Yeah, they only have 7 games total above Q4. But that is what we get when we play 7 games >250 and 5 games >300. Those dregs really drag down your SOS.
True. ISU's non-con truly dreadful at the bottom.

Here's the non-conference (parentheses NCAAT seed, remainder is NET):

(W2) at Purdue
(E5) vs. St. John’s
(S9) Iowa
****
Creighton 83
Syracuse 86
Mississippi State 112
(***Tennessee State 172***)
Long Beach State 257
Houston Christian 294
Grambling 305
Stonehill 332
Eastern Illinois 319
FDU 334
Alcorn 349

It just goes to show how NCSOS is a terrible metric. It often doesn't really show how much your team challenged itself in the noncon and mostly just shows how bad your bad teams were, which is really meaningless when comparing NCAA tournament-level teams and especially comparing high seeds.

And Tennessee State lost to that 319th ranked Eastern Illinois

Unless they shoot 80% from 3, and that's all they shoot, I'm not the least concerned. Now Sunday ... **** can and does happen, all the time, for decades

Sure, but that doesn’t explain how their awful schedule is way better?
I agree, the rankings are awful. Is the 200th best team really any different than playing the 300th best team if you are in a power conference? Sure shouldn't be. Non-con should treat anyone outside of the top 100 the same and be weighted to your more difficult opponents. It's a worthless metric with how it is done.
