NBA: Summer 2018 Off Season Thread

Depending on the terms of the deal this would be a good signing if the Bucks don't match but they are supposedly $15 mil under the cap but Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting the Bucks likely won't match the offer. ESPN currently has him ranked the 3rd best player left in free agency. He was hurt most of last year but he's only 23 years old, a former #2 overall pick, and averaged 20.1 ppg, 6.2 rbg, 2.8 apg, and 1.0 spg just a year ago and shoots pretty decent % He'd probably play SF for the Bulls. The Bulls aren't going to land a superstar in free agency with this current team and front office but Parker is the kind of under the radar player they need to target and seems to fit the kind of player Hoiberg needs in his system that can stretch the floor.

Bucks pulled their offer so he's a Bulls player. Man alive will they be poor at defense, but they are looking more and more like what Hoiberg would want to put out there atleast offensively. Doubt the lavine and parker contracts help the Bulls now or in the future though.

I think I saw they rescinded their QO to Nwaba to do this. He may be a great late pickup for somebody.

I agree Nwaba and Zipser were released for the Parker contract and both will be good pick ups for contenders especially if Houston can get Nwaba.

Good contract though, 2 year $40 mil with the 2nd year a team option so if things don't work out they only are stuck with him for 1 year

Two odd moves this morning... Not sure why Sac wants McLemore back? Bjelica not signing this late hurts the 76ers plans for next year, not many FA available for his money.

@wojespn Sacramento is finalizing a trade to send forward Garrett Temple to Memphis for Ben McLemore, Deyonta Davis and cash, league sources tell ESPN.

@wojespn Free agent forward Nemanja Bjelica -- who had agreed to a one-year deal with the 76ers -- informed the team on Monday that he will stay in Europe this season, league sources tell ESPN. He never signed his contract with Philadelphia.

Doesn't make much sense for the Kings, at least on the surface. Temple was a useful player for them and he should fit in pretty nicely in Memphis. Sacramento gets...I don't know. A little more cap space, yet another developmental big, and a crappy wing player?

This is the best San Antonio could get? Kawhi and Green for Derozan, Raptors just ***** the Spurs.

Poeltl and protected first round, too. Spurs were in a tough spot. People know he likely won't stay wherever he goes, and teams weren't willing to give up much for that. With all that, getting an all star in DeRozan is good, imo. Coaching from pop could really help him.

No not really. Pretty balanced trade from my perspective. Poeltl has a good upside and has been a solid bench piece (same with Green).

DeRozan + 2019 first rounder is more than fair for Kawhi considering he has one year on his deal left and three years left of control on DeMar, not to mention Kawhi is an absolute head case. Dealing Kawhi to Toronto also keeps him out of the West for a year.

I don't hate it for the Spurs. It's a huge gamble for Toronto since there's no guarantee he's anything more than a one year rental. But if it works out Masai Ujiri is going to look like a damn genius.

San Antonio gets a proven All-Star scorer for three years, so they can stay competitive in the West. With Kawhi coming off a serious injury and being free to go wherever he wants after 2018-19, the Spurs had limited leverage. I would have liked it better for them if they had gotten Anunoby or a more lightly protected pick but they were never going to get a king's ransom for Kawhi. To get a top 20-ish player, a first rounder and a somewhat useful big man isn't great but nobody ever gets full value back when they deal a superstar.

Masai isn't gambling. He already knows Kawhi isn't resigning. This is a chance to dump DeRozan's salary and start a rebuild next summer or offer big money to another FA.

Because Toronto is such a marquee destination for free agents? I'm sure he has a backup plan, but there's no way he and the organization aren't doing everything they can to sell Kawhi on Toronto for the one year they have him. The Raptors are one of those teams where they'll only land a superstar by drafting one or acquiring one via trade.

It's a risk for Toronto because the Lowry/Derozan core had won consistently, and the only thing standing in their way had just left the conference. The safe play would have been to run it back one more time to see if they could get over the hump in the East with Lebron gone. I give credit to Ujiri for rolling the dice, but if it doesn't work out then after 18-19 he's looking at a rebuild that could take years.

I agree, we have seen the DeRozan version of the Raptor's the past 3 years a regular season team who falls short in the playoffs. I don't think Masai thought they were good enough to win the East with Boston and 76ers rising with that roster. They were also locked into to DeRozan at 27 mill with an aging Lowery with little room for improvement for the next 3 years (at 30).
Kawhi raises the ceiling for one year to win the East and then you can reset with the young pieces a year after if it doesn't work. There is always the possibility he likes Toronto unexpectedly re-signs, much like PG13 last year.
Bold move but Toronto needed a change to really compete and it definitely adds some spice to the Eastern Conference.

Lol you really don't have to tell me that. I've become acquainted with this fact for 17 seasons now.

They were never going to win anything important with a DeRozan-Lowry core. After the past 5 playoff performances it couldn't be more evident. Masai isn't the type of guy that is going to be content with putting butts in seats by winning regular season crowns. Of course they'll try to convince Kawhi to stay after his one year is up, but I can guarantee you Masai knows that's a one in a million chance and wasn't relied upon in making this plan for the future.

Very interesting trade. The Raptors are gambling on Kawhi wanting the money over destination. Assuming he is healthy and he is an All NBA guy again, Toronto has has bird rights plus they could offer super max which would be a huge amount more than any other team can offer. Probably 50-60 million more.
