NBA: Summer 2018 Off Season Thread

Giving Lavine $20 million a year is such a bad idea. Just tank and try to get top free agents next summer.

The Bulls need to focus on getting Anthony Davis in two years. As long as they do that, they can drop money on upside plays like Lavine.

really interesting watching the players from ISU play the last two years in the summer league, its crazy how much more basketball iq our guys have compared to a majority of the players that are playing in these games. If the league truly is working toward high iq players that can shoot most if not all should have a shot at sticking in the league this year (especially niang and morris).

Watched Monte last night, he was borderline dominant in the first half. Vying for the backup PG role and showed capable. Highlights above.

Agreed, they will need to be competitive if AD or any premium FA will be willing to sign there too. Allowing young asset to walk and not showing promise/making the playoffs could easily result in on FA wanting to go to chi-town.

Lavine for 20 is an overspend, but they were expecting to pay 15+ so it just a bit more. They identified him as the piece in the Butler trade they obviously believe in him. Another minor factor is the Bull have almost no contract money on the books next year there is a cap floor they would need to reach anyways. Not the ideal way to justify paying 5 mill more than expected but it is a rationale.

Montes team for summer league is filled with absolutely brutally bad players

Looking more and more like Houston as the landing spot for Melo after he and the Thunder reach a buyout agreement. The Rockets have lost two of their better 3 and D guys in Ariza and Mbah a Moute to free agency. Melo doesn't offer much in the way of defense but he does at least theoretically offer some offensive firepower. I guess it depends on whether you think he's washed or if the fit was just that bad in OKC. I think it's probably a little of both. He's past his All Star days, but Russell Westbrook is not an easy guy to play with and in the optimal situation Melo can still provide some scoring punch as a third option.

I don't agree that there are three. I think it's the Warriors and Celtics and that's it. Ordinarily I'd never bet against Lebron and if Kawhi lands with the Lakers for 2018-19 then the equation changes drastically, but for the time being their absolute ceiling is conference finals fodder for the Warriors.

At 28 Million they're are only a couple of teams that could absorb that space, The Bulls would have been a obvious partner before the Lavine contract but now don't have the cap space. I did hear of a scanerio where the Bulls could trade Felicio and his 20+ million over 3 years for Melo even possibly to keep him since they don't have a good SF option.

I in the end I expect him to get a buyout from OKC once he can get a price from the teams he's meeting with (much like Dwight Howard).

I'd be offering like veterans minimum if I'm other teams, they know they have OKC over a barrel

I agree that Houston has fallen from a favorite now, the two wings they lost were super important to their success. With out Melo on OKC they could be a scary team to play by playoffs especially if they can find a way to get another shooter.
