Daughter stopped buying season tickets because the last two years she couldn’t get in to the games she wanted since they oversell student tickets.
I was a student from 2015-18 and there were only two games where students were turned away, Iowa 2015 (20 point comeback game) and Tennessee in 2018 for the Dilly Dilly shirts.

From what I've heard, that hasn't happened that much since. I've been to quite a few games the last few years and there have been a good amount of open seats still in the student section for games, aside from Iowa, Kansas, and Texas for Tyrese Hunter's return. I'd say 95% of games in the last few years have been games where students were not turned away.

Most likely they are owned by people that selling those seats, and people are not purchasing them at the prices they want. At the women's games all the seats around us have different people in them from game to game, there are only 4 seats in our row that have the same people most of the games, it us and the couple beside us.
I just think the crazy part is we're talking north of probably 70 seats in those combined sections that have been empty.....every. single. game.

I don't know that I had a student athletic fee when I was there 1997-2001, but we definitely had to purchase season football and basketball tickets. They were cheapish---I think basketball ran around $100.
And at that time (same time I was there), student tickets were intermingled with the general public and donor seats. Had a handful of games in arena circle and handful in parquet, with the rest being upper deck.

Yeah, that's a great idea and I've thought the same....some way to fill the seats without others being grumpy because they paid.

I think even that model you proposed could be for other students....like a "hey, students.....come check out a game on us.....claim your ticket now!" type of deal and of course also just GA type for the remaining for public because it seems over breaks the public does a good job snatching up tickets they normally can't get.
Yup. I've been to some of those break games, and they're almost always full. There's definitely an appetite for those seats from the public at large.

But the boost we get from a full student section makes maintaining flexibility worth it.

Not exactly sure.

She got reimbursed for 5 games the year Hunter came here with Texas. So those were the games she got turned away from. She got a whopping 8.75 back.

The best thing is to let students sell their tickets to the general public but not allow those to be used in the lower bowl.

And as a fan, for those big games I want as many students there as possible, even if it means some empty cheap seats for lesser games. Keep in mind those upper deck student section seats are the worst seats in the arena, so they'd be last filled anyway.
If I remember correctly, the Kansas game this year didn't have any students in the upper deck. The atmosphere didn't seem any worse to me. When Cujo hit the 3 before the end of the 1st half, it's the loudest I've heard Hilton in a while.

Might have been that it wasnt included in the student package I believe since classes weren’t back in session.

Families with young kids pack those seats. Weekend afternoon games with school on break are not the same thing as weeknight games. The Utah game wasn't packed by any stretch of the imagination

There's almost no appetite (students or general public) for a Tuesday 7PM tip against a bad Colorado team. Throw in sub-zero temps and it gets even worse.

I struggle selling my 4 tickets for plenty of late-tip games, conference or non-conference.

My row of 9 seats gets fully used 1-2 games each year (Iowa and/or Kansas). They don't even bother selling the 6 unused seats. This is in a CycloneClub donor section. It's crazy to think someone has that kind of money to just burn for the sake of having good seats for one game a year.

Surely there is tracking for ticket utilization scans. Someday, I hope that data will be used to release seats for non-usage so others can upgrade seat locations. And, others sitting out and waiting can then have access to donor section seats.

I will allow them to redeem themselves next Saturday vs Arizona. If they do now show up full force I would be more willing to consider selling top bowl to public

Now add another couple hundred of tickets into the mix if they are pulled from students and sold to the public with many coming up for sale and the resale price of all tickets not on the floor will drop even more.

I’m guessing that the majority of the people here think there needs to be an attendance policy for them. If they don’t show for 80% of the games then they get their tickets pulled. If we do it to students, gotta do it to all.

Probably because kids didn't care as much anymore. Plus you can watch all the games on TV.

You've been able to watch every game locally since at least the 80's and it was a helluva lot easier to flip on WOI than it is to login and watch a ****** ESPN+ stream.
