AD is laughing their way to the bank right now overselling the seats and making money at a much better rate than the comparable seats on the other end.

Hilton needs a reseating and every seat should require donation. Then we can chip away at student seats.

They oversell by only 1000 and charge 125/ticket.

Gen public non-donor in the equivalent section across the way is 325/ticket.

It’s not some cash cow you seem to think it is.

Yup. I've been to some of those break games, and they're almost always full. There's definitely an appetite for those seats from the public at large.

But the boost we get from a full student section makes maintaining flexibility worth it.
The nice thing about those break games is they are right at Christmas and families buy those tkts for Christmas presents, kids are out schedules lighten up it is a great family environment, and IMO it's usually a pretty good game environment.

If you make all sections require a donation you are probably going to see season ticket sales go down. I've had corner balcony season tickets since the Wayne Morgan years which then they were $99 a season and today they are like $250 now and those are in non-donor sections. I'm sure they will increase the price again on those and if they started to require a donation for all MBB season tickets that may be the thing that would make me consider not renewing. I'm having to relocate my FB season tickets after my 3 year price lock ended and it's a big difference in donor to non-donor pricing there. $200 bump per seat for the cheapest donor sections and looks like they shrunk the number of non donor sections this year too so will be interesting what season ticket sales look like with the increase in donor level pricing along with the ticket and fee increases on top of that. Not everyone can afford donor level season tickets.

If push came to shove and I got priced out of my men's season tickets I'd probably just buy women's season tickets instead then buy some select men's games kind of like I do with the women's tickets now (which BTW are VERY family friendly with the pricing!) You still need to offer some more affordable options if you want to pack Jack Trice and Hilton consistently because with the additional financial asks of the fan base between donor level increases, ticket price increases, and the push to donate to NIL too it's going to get to the point where it's too expensive for your average fan just like it's so damn expensive to take your family to a single NFL/MLB/NBA games these days.

My son is a student and predicted there wouldn't be as many students there last night. He said the combo of bad opponent and lots of exams this week would have an impact
Warning: Old man story about to commence…

Back in MY DAY, I don’t care if I had 3 tests the next day…I NEVER missed a game in Hilton!

Hrumph!

id like to know how many total seats in Hilton are reserved for students compared to other B12 schools.

Texas Tech has a massive student section.

Kansas allocates around 4K

Welcome to college athletics in 2025. It's not just Iowa State, it's everywhere. Kids don't care like they used to when we were that age.
It's a microcosm of society in general. Unless it's the NFL it just isn't a big deal anymore. It's other things also. NIL and conference realignment has killed rivalries. We don't know who's on the our opponents teams from one year to the next so it's harder to dislike them or have a Boogeyman. I would have shown up to a Mizzou-ISU game any day of the week.

How many student tickets are there? Also, do the 325/ticket people get the winter break games? Those would need to be added into the student ticket number if the 325s get those games.

The wbb tkts are going up this next yr. Not a lot but it won't be the deal we are currently getting.

Ya, would guess the university is losing money by giving the students more tickets than what they need instead of selling them to the general public.
We looked at purchasing tickets when they went on sell to football season ticket holders, the only one left were in the top two rows around the arena. I figured I would just save my money and watch them on TV.

I'm sure but they wont be outpricing their base I'm sure. Between JCC for my kids and they $1 and $5 ticket deals they run we've made several cheap games this year and sat just a few rows from the court behind the basket.

Would it make sense to have the upper deck section only available for certain games like Kansas, Houston, Arizona and maybe Kansas State? Then sell the tickets to the other games to the general public?

Do you realize what students have to do to go? They oversell the section so students are not guaranteed seats. This causes several problems. For big games you need to stand outside for hours and still risk being turned away. After that happens a couple times and you realize certain groups have the system rigged, it isn't worth the time and effort to try and stand in line. It is not like it was "back in your day" where you had a guaranteed seat. It is a ******** system that really drives students away.

Just curious how they rig the system. I honestly don’t know.

Last night I can’t blame students for staying home with -9 windchill and a crappy Colorado team.
