Steele

JB also got to play the 3 best teams in the conference. He beat the top team and went head to head with the 3rd best team. If it wasn't for the turnovers against OU (not all on him) we could have had a chance to hang in there, as well.

I love the results that Jantz had before he got hurt and we wouldn't be bowling without him, but right now, JB gives us the best chance to win.

And JB also got to play the 2 worst defenses on the schedule in Kansas and TT.

I'm not saying I want Steele over JB or anything. I just would like to see Steele play again for Iowa State. Pre injury he was electric.

I just want the guy that gives us the best chance of winning. If that is JB or Steele, I don't care.

Not me. Jantz will be a senior next season, Barnett will be a sophomore. I want Barnett to grow in this system, and him not going into the off-season as ISU's number 1 would not help that.

What if the staff feels Richardson is better but Jantz is better next year?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see 2 qb's take snaps next year in the non-conference games. Actually, I wouldn't even be totally shocked to see all 3 take snaps if nobody asserts themselves.

I'm not saying it is going to happen, I just wouldn't be shocked.

If that's what they feel than they should go that route. To me, the team overall was better with JB under center that with Steele. JB grew a lot this season, and I'm excited to watch him continue to grow in this system. Going the Jantz/Richardson route I would think would be less effective than going the with Barnett in his sophomore and junior seasons...but I obviously dont get paid to make those decisions.

You gotta start the best guy, period. The coaching staff did that all year. Jantz was the best when the season started, and Barnett was the best when he took over.

I expect Barnett to continue to be "the man", but if Jantz drastically improves his decision making, he's going to win the starting job. His overall talent level is probably greater, and if he isn't coughing the ball up, you have to start him. Barnett will still have two years after wards, and will be ready to go if Jantz starts ******** the bed or gets hurt.

Not saying JB isn't better but Steele had more yards per game, better TD to INT ratio and a higher pass effficency rating. JB did win games though, but he got to play the two worse teams in the conference and A&M as their season was tanking.

Steele is like Brett Favre, you will get high highs and low lows. I think Steel's best is better than JB's best but ISU just isn't good enough to weather the low lows which makes a steady QB probably a better choice.
I agree. But I also think Steele can eliminate the low lows with more experience (and healthy).

I'm forever helps us win too.

The thing is, neither one of them is THAT much better than the other. If I had the choice, and I dont, I would not be opening up the QB spot going into the off-season. I would announce that JB is our man. Reason being that him playing next year will only make his junior and senior seasons that much better. Put him as the #2 next season, and he wont progress as much, IMO.

Put Steele back there at safety. Course I think lil Knott may just step into Bentons position next year.

As a true Freshman, starting over Broomfield/Brackens/Givens in the Big 12!? You seriously just throw **** against the wall and hope it sticks.

:spinny:

I would be very surprised if this happened without injury or the starter just playing awful.

We still need a #2 QB and despite the hype we don't know how SR will perform in Big 12 or even Div 1 play. Remember, Steele had lots of hype, too.

Besides, we also don't know if with more practice, weight training and film work (not to mention being healthy again) he won't cut the turnovers down. Without the TO's he is competitive for the job.

EDIT: Frankly in the Big 12, especially when your QB runs, you really should have 3 QB's who can step in and play.

Exactly right. Given Barnett's build and playing style, I can't believe he'll make it through a full season without getting dinged up. I just hope Jantz keeps his head right. There will be an opportunity for him somewhere down the line, and he'll need to be ready when it arrives.

One would hope, but we don't have the greatest track record with that.

I do generally agree with your point here, though. If it's close, you go with building for the future.

However, I think Jantz has enough talent that if he cleans up his decision making, it won't be all that close.

This was my point, if they don't play well I could see it as a possibility. Probably not going to happen but like I said, it wouldn't shock me

You questioning the ability of the Knott boys?

I agree with this, but just going out on a limb here, if Franklin does get the OC job, Barnett will be a couple steps ahead as he ran the same offense in high school. Jantz would have another offense to learn, and he really didn't learn Herman's that quickly, or at least it seems.

And a turnover machine.

Steele got to play UNI and UCONN which I would say is collectively worse than Tech and KU. He was healthy and didn't light the world on fire in either of those games.
