Southwest disaster

I would fly Delta more but out of DSM I feel like its Allegiant, SW, or AA.

United, Delta, American, and Allegiant all have more flights out of DSM than Southwest. SW usually only has 3-4 flights per day out of Des Moines. For being small, Des Moines has a good number of airline options.

I'm sure you're right, it's probably more so with where I'm going.

I cannot wait to read about all the mid to low level employees who've been flagging this as a tremendous risk over the past 5+ yrs. Because you know they have. And were ignored.

What is even more frustrating is that prior to begging the federal govt for a bailout during the pandemic, the largest airlines spent round 96% of their cash funds on bonuses and stock buybacks. I read that in an economics article. Very little money went back into the companies.

And it’ll be their problem for not fixing it! Because **** always flows downstream. And upper management will be told they did a good job managing the fire and putting it out.

Ya don’t say lol. Then that proceeded to drive inflation. Shocking.

I'm lower mid level and I act my wage. I let upper management know there's an issue and cc myself on the email and then send it to a personal account, then the problem largely gets ignored.

And honest to God at this point it'd have to be faster to have them all input their current location and info into a Form. Then import into whatever system they use. Which is probably people keying it into some **** ass system. Either way, that's faster than calling in.

Agreed.

Why is it dumb @isuno1fan ? How many times have we bailed out the airlines only for them to do a stock buyout and skimp on infrastructural improvements? Remember when bag fees started because “gas prices?” Gas went down and the fees never went away. Airlines pocketed it. If it’s this critical to the operation of our country and our economy, why don’t we put some skin in the game?

The cult of avoiding investment by governments and companies in this country is just astounding. I worked at a Dow company that, for the longest time, wanted to get six years of life from staffs’ laptops. That commercial where the guy “accidentally” drops coffee on his so he can get a new one is ripped from that company. This is the same company that had a 3 year replacement cycle for helicopters and planes used by executives. Just ludicrous…

We love socialization of risk and privatization of profits in this country.

Investment has long term paybacks while shareholders are only concerned about this quarter.

Honestly though, without getting too deep in the weeds, this is a benefit of higher corporate taxation that doesn't get talked about about as much. When those funds are "use them or lose them" as opposed to being available for things like stock buybacks (which themselves used to be illegal), the math tilts more in the favor of investing that money back into the business, both for its employees and for more infrastructural improvements.

Pretty much fly exclusively with Southwest. Probably should reevaluate, but will continue flying with them until I get burned I guess.

It’s about time we invested in building out a high speed rail network.

It's nice idea, but the obstacles involved make it a monumental task that would take decades to complete.

What I'd like to see in the short(er) term is prevent further airline consolidation (and potentially force some decoupling), and abandon the hub and spoke system the airlines use now. It reduces efficiency, it bottle necks traffic, we see what happens when a hub has weather issues and it restricts competition due to limited terminal spots.

Moving away from hub and spoke opens up competition for smaller more efficient airlines with direct flights to multiple locations providing some flexibility to quickly change routes due to weather or unexpected demand.

The biggest obstacle unfortunately is that it requires the FAA to get their **** together as well.
