Source: K.J. Bluford is transferring

So you think it's just a coincidence that the guys at the end of the bench have decided to transfer away at the end of each season under Fred?

Sit on the bench and not play or transfer to someplace you can play, tough decision there. Idiot.

Didn't know the season was done in December also.

We need to go after a 5th year senior guard like Kane and Korie with this open scholarship. We will have no senior guards on the team next year. I'm not sure Monte (who is playing great, don't get me wrong) and Custer (a freshman) can lead us through an entire season.

If they don't get that, I'd be smart to go after JC again. We'll need forwards.

If that door is closed, go after some transfer/JuCo shooters.
Niang, Hogue, Nader, Mckay, Edozie, Gibson not a horrible 6 deep. Edozie could be ready by next year. Naz and Thomas haven't been world beaters lately but they looked better our first 7 games and will again. Sdw is getting better and monte is solid and will be better. Rashad would be great if not him would like a seasoned shooter to add to our mix if he can play right away otherwise I would have no quilm adding a transfer that sat out next season for 2015. 1 to replace hogue.

So you believe Okoro was shown the door? What about Bluford, was he shown the door during the middle of the season? I believe they all had their reasons. There will always be attrition with every team. So I guess my answer is yes/no.

I think Okoro was probably strongly encouraged to look at other schools. I think this is probably Bluford leaving on his own since it happened at midseason but I think there's a good chance he would have been encouraged to move on after the season was over any way.

I'm pretty sure Okoro left because he could go to where he really wanted to. Iowa State seemed like his 2nd choice. I got that he always wanted to play for Rutgers but didn't go there because of their coach.

It was a family related issue. If Okoro had wanted to go to Rutgers to begin with, he could have.

I'm sure Fred sits down and has a heart to heart with these guys and basically says....

"Look, I don't really see your skillset fitting in here. Would you like me to help you find a program where you can contribute and play a significant role?"

It's probably a mutual thing to some degree and even though the players are likely hurt, hearing the reality of the situation, it really is better for them if they can go to a different program and find a bigger role. Look at Sledge and McKight and the success that they have had.

LOL like Fred wouldn't have found room for both of them. Fred's going to bring in the guys he wants each year and then worry about making room for them, and I love this strategy. It's what you have to do to become an elite program.
To a degree. He wanted both Kane and Amardi, but that did not work out as planned.

Just shut up. Please.

Okoro had both his dad and brother die during the season, and you think Hoiberg "strongly encouraged" him to look at other schools? He's from New York and went back home. Jesus...

Boo, no reason to even say this, especially since it seem like absolutely the right move for him. Will still have 1.5 yrs of eligibility left and very unlikely he's going to play much the rest of the year.

Besides doesn't even make sense. McKay is going to be here whether he pays his own way for a semester or not. The coaching staff wouldn't kick another player off the team to get McKay out of paying for one semester.

He has 1 year of eligibility in d1 and depending on if he has a red shirt (dont think he does) then he will really justbhave .5 year (next january). I wouldnt be surprised to see him go division 2.

I hope this provides the flexibility to go strong after Cunningham or a prep school wing like Shamiek Sheppard. For class balance, it would nice to bring in a couple of frosh who could be Cyclones for 4 years.

CFH can then use the 3rd scholarship on Vaughn or a JUCO scorer or a possible transfer.

3rd scholly? We only got 2.

That's true. Cutting someone that late is tough to do and I wonder if Amardi was who the staff settled on because he would have the easiest time of finding a scholarship from a power conference team. I don't know if edozie or bluford would have had the same luck and I think Fred really does want all these kids to succeed whether it's at ISU or not.

He'll likely do the same thing McKay did. Transfer now and start his redshirt year this upcoming spring semester at his new school. That puts him eligible as a RS Junior second semester next year. He'd then have 3 semesters of eligibility left, not one.

No Mckay is losing a half semester of eligibility. But is redshirting this year. One semester counts as a year. He didnt play this year unlike bluford. He loses a semesterbecause of the transfer sit out rule. After this season bluford only has 1 year left. He will either redshirt all of next year or play for only half a year somewhere. By leaving now he is certainly losing an extra semester if eligability unless he goes d2. I think he used his redshirt already too so this may be his only chance. Maybe he figured .5 is better than no minutes. He is behind thomas naz and sdw at the 2 and if we get RV he would be our 5th 2 and unlikely to see any minutes. He made the right move.

It's the same as McKay. Neither Bluford or McKay redshirted yet (as far as I know anyway).

They both came out of Juco this fall as Juniors, signed with a team then decided to transfer prior to the second semester. It doesn't matter if you played in the first semester or not. McKay can't start his "redshirt" year until he enrolls at his new school (ISU) for the spring semester. He said on Twitter that he's in Ames today. He had to finish out his first semester at Marquette.

Bluford is in the same situation, provided he's at another school by the start of spring classes this year. Starts his redshirt year then and will be eligible second semester next year with 1.5 years to play.

Bluford always seemed like a reach by Hoiberg. He definitely like to get his shots up, but if given the opportunity for significant minutes, I don't think he would have been chucking like he did in CCL and garbage time. He's small and not as talented as our other guards. It was wishful thinking to expect anything near what McGee did last season. I hope he gets some minutes somewhere.
