You all knew it was inevitable so here it is. The receiving group this season has a very high ceiling and the potential to be one of the best in school history. I will say this all depends on line play allowing Sam enough time to find the open guy. Bundrage, Lazard, and Montgomery may be the best 1 2 3 there has been at WR since Blythe, Davis, and Flynn.

It'd be nice to see our lengthy receivers abusing smaller defensive backs. You know- like what other teams do to our secondary.

Blythe was the master of the subtle push-off. Hope he joins our staff someday; he's busy coaching up the enemy. Vereen made him look good these last few seasons.

should be in the top half of the big 12 for sure. Baylor Oklahoma Oklahoma State Iowa State will all have great receivers

Blythe better than #1 guy this yr. Flynn comparable to #2 guy this yr. Davis not as good as #3 guy this yr. RJ Summeral wasn't a bad #4 guy in 2005 either. Potential is there for this group but the 2005 team had better guys at other positions, which helped the wrs.

I wonder if Lazard or Montgomery will be a hybrid TE at times. That could be deadly to have those 3 out at the same time. Would really open up some running room.

We've hyped the WRs before in error. It's deserved this season.

Agreed. There's more talent in the WR core at ISU than I've ever seen. Will be interesting to see if they can figure out a way to capitalize off of it. OL play will be huge.

Good to see D'Vario slim down to 225. He looked more like a TE last season.

Bundrage will still be our best deep threat. Hopefully Lazard will be a step faster this season.

I will agree that this has the potential to be ISU's best receiving core... ever. It won't matter much if the OL is weak and the QB is off-target. I think the OL and QB will be serviceable enough to have a marked improvement on offensive production through the air this year.

With the height that we have, there's no reason not to take a couple shots with some jump balls if we're facing one-on-one coverage.

My biggest gripe about Lazard last year was when he went up after some catches with one arm. I'm assuming that will get corrected through coaching and experience. He's got the talent to be an elite receiver in the Big 12.

The best WRs in the world could play for ISU, and they would still be completely neutered if the O-line does not protect the QB and the QB does not make good decisions and decent throws. It's like having a Ferrari, but a level B surface road - it just doesn't matter.

I think we had great WRs last year, and it didn't make a lick of difference in W/L or scoring points. If the O-line is good this year, then yeah, the WRs could be awesome.

This is just not true. I mean SR may be able to get bailed out on some bad passes because of the talent at WR, but overall it absolutely matters if the OL is weak and he is off-target.

Our WR's were probably the only reason we got 2 wins, cuz our running game wasn't doing jack.

So you agree?

So you agree?

With what? The WR talent may bail him out a few times, but no I do not agree. Weakness on the oline and inaccuracy by the QB will matter if that's what happens. It doesn't matter how good your WRs are if you don't have time to get them the ball or if you do have time and you throw a bad pass.

I think he's saying that their potential, talent, or whatever won't matter if the OL is weak or Sam is off-target, which it won't, since they'd never really have a good opportunity to make a play.

I think you two said the same thing. Throw a "But" at the beginning of his second sentence.

What I am learning is that the Cyclone Receivers have great potential. SR is a great scrambler and having those great receivers counts for nothing. We have a lot of OLinemen that have started and have experience and we should be better. But we are Iowa State......so we will suck.....and there is no chance we will be decent.

The Hawkeyes on the other hand have receivers that suck.....but they will be great. The Hawkeyes lost a first round draft pick on the OL and their line does not look that good.....but they will be great. CJ Beathard has not shown any consistency at QB......but he will be great. The Hawkeyes lost their 2 DT's from last year and will be replaced by 2 guys that had one assisted tackle between them all of last year.....but they will be great. The LB's were slow and did not play well last year......but they will be great. And Ferentz and his staff have sucked at coaching.......but they will be great. And the Hawkeyes will lose to the Cyclones again.......but the Hawkeyes will be the better team. Do I have that right?
