Chris -

Curious if there were any further questions to or comments from the staff regarding the on field incident from Saturday. Although I thought it reflected poorly on the two players and the D as a whole, I just chalked it up to "heat of the moment". At least I hope that was all there was to the exchange and nothing more to it.

Maybe I missed what happened, but from what I saw, I couldn't understand why LJ seemed po'd at Sims.

LJ thought sims had over the top coverage. Sims was up for run support. Blown coverage. That is why he was mad. It looked like they shook it off later in the game and gave each other a fist bump.

Sims bit on the run fake. Then missed tackle on the next play. I think he needed to sit another game.

He got caught on the play action, but it looked like he was playing way up towards the line anyways. He looked way out of position. I know Wally doesn't blitz much so I don't think he was playing up to blitz.

Yep, and it was an epic fail against Iowa.
Even my little sister knows you have to blitz Iowa if you are ISU.

Yeah, Wally doesnt know what the heck he is doing out there! Has he ever coached for a BCS school before?! Is this his first season?! Man, what the heck Wally! You have no idea how to properly coach a D-1 defense!

I was at the Jacobson Building all morning. Other than a conversation that I had with a few other writers, this topic was never discussed. I think it was a frustration thing that won't be an issue as the season rolls along.

Not an uncommon occurence on the field for any team. Just happened to be a camera on these guys when it happened.

Go back and watch the last game vs Iowa. Also, go watch last year games especially Mizzou game. LJ looks lost.

Agree at times LJ did look lost. I thought for awhile we were watching the Walden years when we were on D. Playing 10 yards off each guy, letting the TE run free. It was not good at times. I agree with the blitzing...needed to do more of that. But our young LB core is going to take some hits this season, that is why LJ and crew need to step it up.

Don't think that Simms should of sit another game, we needed him out there. He made some good tackles and he made some poor plays as well. He will be better this weekend against the Cats.

Ha. Watch Reeves. LJ got beat bad by McNutt on the crossing pattern. He gave McNutt the inside and was trailing the rest of the time. Otherwise the time he was beat was Sims fault. Sims got caught playing the run and was beat bad.

DJK numerous times too. Watch the KSU game and see how LJ does.

Sims misses the tackle on the next play and there were ZERO other Cyclones even on the screen. He wasn't the only guy to miss a tackle either. Maybe had the Dline done even a servicable job our secondary wouldn't be hung out to dry. To say he needed to sit another game is stupid. He was arguably the best defender we had last year and we were facing a team that ran and passed at will against us. It also wouldn't be the first time a defender bit on the run against Iowa. That is kinda what they do best. Sit another game:confused:.

Also, it's not like LJ has gotten the job done the last couple years. He gets beat far too often. Sit the whole damn D for that matter.

I think Sims was still mad the next play and was not tuned into the run, he missed the Iowa RB clean. Ya, there should have been someone else to make the play before the safety, but that is what a safety is suppose to do, stop the home run. It wasn't like he was bitzing and got caught either. I agree that LJ is still getting beat way too often for a three year starter.

Playing 10 yards off each guy is not Walden that is classic Bobby Elliot pass coverage. I was hoping that had changed put after watch the Iowa game I see it hasn't.

:biglaugh: We thought we could cover DJK and McNutt and Reisner one on one!

Man, that play action Post crosser pattern they ran for 197 yards was a toughy to stop!
