Sims and Johnson

:biglaugh: We thought we could cover DJK and McNutt and Reisner one on one!

Man, that play action Post crosser pattern they ran for 197 yards was a toughy to stop!

The DB's need to run into the crossing reciever on those pick plays rather than slowing down to force the officials to throw the flag on a pick. If you slow down you'll never get a flag. Of course if they can't find their hanky it is an easy 6.

You also need to be careful that it is the crossing reciever and not your teammate that you are running into.

Ha. Watch Reeves. LJ got beat bad by McNutt on the crossing pattern. He gave McNutt the inside and was trailing the rest of the time. Otherwise the time he was beat was Sims fault. Sims got caught playing the run and was beat bad.

Watch Reeves do what? Make plays on the ball and defend passes because he is actually in position to defend a play? Thats what bad corners do I guess. LJ does not have the burst to stay with receivers. DJK dropped a TD on a pass down the middle in which Johnson spent the whole time trailing as well. He cannot stay with his assignments, so, yeah, he's great. At getting torched.

I watched the DVR last night. Reeves played with some hustle. I liked what I saw.

I love LJ cause he busts his *** for my favorite team and I really appreciate it, but he has to be the most overrated player on the team. Im not sayin he is bad or not good or whatever, but he gets a lot of pub for nuthin IMO.

On the play in question, where LJ and Sims go at each other, LJ is trying to cover someone running free right down the middle of the field... not the sideline. My first thought at the moment was... "where in the world is the safety?". That is the safety's play to make IMO.

LJ had every right to yell at Sims on that play IMO. Where was he at? They are called "safeties" for a reason.

We had no choice. Even doing that wasn't enough to stop their run game

I'm not saying LJ is awesome (he still hasn't shown me) but really? Reeves over LJ? Seriously. At risk of saying you know absolutely nothing about football, don't ya think that if this was true Reeves would start. Don't ya think. Just maybe. Or is it possible that Elliot just doesn't have the keen eye for d-backs you do? Or maybe Elliot doesn't watch film. Idiots. Move on.

LJ is fast and with decent size. Those two characteristics alone give him the highest potential of probably any of our DBs. I was extremely impressed with the progress he made from last season to the spring game a few months ago. At Iowa he made a number of mental errors. I'm still going to give him a pass and consider him our best cover man. He'll rebound.

Why exactly would you say LJ is overrated? Because his name isn't called enough by the PA? The truth is, unless LJ has picked off a pass, you don't want his name called by the PA. And the reason why LJ isn't getting those picks anymore is because QBs aren't throwing in his direction anymore because of his playmaking ability.

Now yes, LJ did get torched on Saturday. Then again, who on ISU didn't get torched on Saturday?

Actually they were in Cover 3 and Sims has flats but he played the run because nothing showed in the flats. LJ got mad because he thought Sims had his over the top help but actually the other Safety had over the top help. it was just all mis communication on the field. Either way LJ shouldnt have been getting beat in a Zone coverage anyways!

By a TE nonetheless.

Not in the frikkin' middle of the field he didn't. That was all self-centered, to try to tell all the fans and TV viewers that "it wasn't me - it was him!"
Wait until you're on the sidelines to have it out, or better yet, let the position coach yell at him. Very selfish.
