SDSU attendance predictions

I'm not sure what it will mean for a total attendance number but there is going to be a pretty large contingent of Jackrabbit fans that make the trip. I can see where ISU fans aren't jacked up about a game with SDSU but everyone should be up for a good tailgate and some football.

This game is a big deal for our school so our fans will turn out.

Look forward to meeting some new friends at ISU!

Perhaps if attendance is a disappointment, JP will consider scrapping the Thursday night thing and go back to Saturday openers. I know the arguments--students going home on long three day holiday, chance to be on TV, etc. But Thursday night games are a major pain for most working people and experience has shown that TV appearances aren't a guaranteed thing. Either have an opener on Thursday with an opponent who's going to generate some interest (say another BCS school), or give the hardcore fans a break and have the opener on Saturday.

Seems to me that with classes starting so late, most students would stay in town their first real weekend no matter what. I hate to see season ticket holders not show due to schedule. Students? Well, that is their choice whether to stay or go. Really, if you come to Ames for one week and have to go right back home the next weekend to mommy and daddy, you are a loser.

I personally don't mind the Thursday games, just because I have plenty of vacation and I get to watch a full day of FB on TV on Saturday. But I feel bad for those season ticket holders who can't make it. And the tailgating sucks on Thursdays because everyone shows up so late.

I don't get what the big deal about going to one Thursday night game is. So you may be a little tired at work the next day. Big deal. Get to the stadium and cheer on your freaking team.

It's more about the ticket holders that are 2+ hours away with wife and kids.

Most in central Iowa, while still not liking Thursday games, will make it. Students will be there also. Outside of that, it is a crap shoot.

The only thing you sacrifice on a Saturday is a few students.

I am torn on this one. The angel on one shoulder wants a packed crowd and a great atmosphere for the team and recruits. The devil on the other side wants a half empty stadium so Pollard tries a Saturday opener next year.

Can of worms...

They knew this was going to be a Thursday night game, even before the schedule came out. Not many excuses unless you have no vacation days.

I say 44,000-45,000

Still no excuse, one can make the trip after departing from work and then go to work the next day. It's not that hard.

Only if they are within about 90 min of JTS. Those 2+ hrs away....doesn't works so well.

Agreed!
I'm not necessarily a fan of the Thursday games specifically because of this. It results in a somewhat minimized crowd and atmosphere. Not everybody is as fortunate as some of us that are, not only closer to Ames, but able to take vacation to get to the game.

we should not coddle the lame fans that won't come on Saturday of labor day weekend. The ONLY reason for a thursday night game is to be on TV...and not this fox sports university or whatever thing we are on...I mean ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports national, etc.

For everyone here that is so quick to complain about smaller crowds and lesser atmosphere for the Thursday games, keep in mind that the whole reason we have Thursday games on Labor Day weekend is because Pollard wasn't happy with the smaller crowds and lesser atmosphere of Saturday games on Labor Day weekend. What do you think has changed in the last few years that would make Saturday any better?

If you have family and work committents, wtih the week day schedules, it is a real challenge.

I think that Pollard has a trip planned for the wife and kids on the weekend so that is why he has a Thursday Night game. I think it hurts our attendance. I think we would be much more likely to catch fans that want something to do on Labor Day weekend. Gas prices are high and they won't roam far from home

When we start winning...the Jack would be packed to the rafters even if we played on Christmas day.

when we play is not the issue/when we start winning is.
