Rocco joining the Transfer Portal

I've thought a LOT about this and have had discussion with family members (ISU fans) concerning RB's speech. If it had been me and I had even the slightest inkling that I'd be moving on to a different institution, I would NOT have spoken to the Women's team. I understand WHY Rocco is transferring, but he needed to tell Bill that due to the coaching change, another student-athlete leader who is committed to THE University (not just a coach) would be better suited to fire up the team. Just my 2 cents!
Since when did being a Grad Transfer become a bad thing? He came to Iowa State, got his degree, gave back to Ames/Story County communities and won 26 of his 39 starts. The most iconic 3 year stretch for Cyclone football.

Unlike the bitterness some fans on this board feel toward Rocco, I'd bet Rocco has very fond memories of his time at ISU. And I hope he is welcomed back just the same as Brock Purdy.

Pribula left because the freshman Zollers took his spot.

I'd be pretty stunned if Mizzou brought in a qb

Edit: not so fast my friend, their 247 site seems to think they'll be qb shopping and zollers will be the backup. Don't see how that happens, he was a fairly high recruit with decent game film but I don't know that situation.
Mizzou hired Michigan's OC. Other than Michigan's stud freshman QB (Underwood) who is from Michigan and reportedly received a 4 year $12M+ NIL deal. There might be a QB Mizzou could raid from the Wolverines.

I’ll call him and ask.
I guess I'm surprised Campbell wouldn't try bringing him in. It's not like he's going to install a completely new system, he's going to run the system he ran at ISU and nobody knows it better than Becht. Weird.

I’d have to imagine Penn St is still the favorite in terms of destination?

No. You think Virgina is welcoming back Shayok and Buchanan? Korie Lucious and Chris Allen welcomed back by MSU? We'll have him back to celebrate anniversary of 10 win season with the rest of the team, but we did the same for Shane Power in basketball. Outside of that, it's all about where you finish.

He will never be loved like Brock with his leaving. And he shouldn’t be loved the same as Brock IMO. I don’t hate Rocco Becht. But he wasn’t an elite QB. Made All Conference Honorable Mention in his best season. Brock Purdy was 2nd team All Big 12 his sophomore season behind Heisman Trophy runner up Jalen Hurts. Purdy won first team All Big 12 the next season and honorable mention the next. In addition to being Freshman of the Year like Becht.

Rocco should not be booed when he does return. But no way does he deserve the same love as Brock.

I'd hope so, wouldn't be a great look for Campbell to turn his back on the QB that helped get him where he is.
I don’t really know anything about the QB at Penn St, but yeah it’d be very weird to me too.

Jimmy Rogers was busy, otherwise he would have fired up the team....

He wants to collect that bag for at least a year before he gets run out of town for bad game-day coaching. Bringing in Rocco after his performance this season would raise way too many red flags up front.

Did those guys get their degree's from Virginia and Michigan State? Rocco got his degree from Iowa State, so he is Cyclone for Life!

This just will not happen.

Don't get me wrong, Rocco should be welcome in Ames of course. I'm not saying he should be booed or tar & feathered or anything dumb like that...

But he will NEVER be looked at the same as Brock Purdy by Cyclone Nation if/when he were to come back.

Purdy is Iowa State royalty.

Rocco is a great footnote of memories in ISU history with a bummer ending (to Cyclone Nation.)

That comes with the territory of choosing to leave instead of stay.

Hok fans know bad QBs when they see them.

PSU QB was a highly recruited get. He was pushed into a starting role against Iowa after Allar was hurt. Did pretty good given that he was blitzed on every down. Lost his first three starts. Won his last three and, again, looked pretty good. PSU fans hope for a QB competition. I don’t see that happening. If RB goes to Pedo St, he starts. And if I’m that Freshman Qb, I hit the portal.

Uh, way before Rocco became a wealthy individual, there were ISU student-athletes who gave back to the community as much or more than Rocco. What did those individuals get in their role as an ISU student-athlete? - They "only" received a free education. I'm glad that Rocco gave back his time for the community - but he also received A LOT!! His decision to leave shows, however, that he was not FULLY committed to the university which supported him (on the field and FINANCIALLY). His speech to the Twister Sisters I believe was heart-felt in the moment- but it has proven to be empty after his decision to leave ISU. I hope he does well in life & continues to give back to any community in which he lives. In regards to how to receive him in the future - there is no absolute way that he should be welcomed back like a Brock Purdy, Ashley Joens, Melvin Ejim or Georges Niang. Oh, how did the Rocco Becht merchandise that was given away to fans or purchased by supportive fans pan out? Worthless right now!! If you wear something of his in public, you are likely to be mocked by a host of Hawk fans.
