Rocco joining the Transfer Portal

The one thing puzzling me…I thought Rocco would open the flood gates for the rest.

Providing ‘cover’ as it were for the rest. I know there’s gonna be more to come, just wondering why they’re waiting?

They trying to get off campus first? Or just gonna wait and surprise us with a notification they’re at pedo state?

It appears there are several guys at WSU that will come with JR. We haven’t got room for them at this point…much less the others from the portal.

Did those guys get their degree's from Virginia and Michigan State? Rocco got his degree from Iowa State, so he is Cyclone for Life!

I moved on the day Matt left and I'm not celebrating a NFL or NBA career for someone that left. We've had plenty of grad transfers from other schools that we claim. But I'm not celebrating the ones that left. If Rocco somehow makes the NFL and it says ISU when they show him in the starting lineup, I'll change my tune. That's not happening. Other than that, he's nothing for us anymore unless you know otherwise.

PSU QB was a highly recruited get. He was pushed into a starting role against Iowa after Allar was hurt. Did pretty good given that he was blitzed on every down. Lost his first three starts. Won his last three and, again, looked pretty good. PSU fans hope for a QB competition. I don’t see that happening. If RB goes to Pedo St, he starts. And if I’m that Freshman Qb, I hit the portal.

The Penn State kid is Ethan Grunkemeyer.

Let’s also not forget most players aren’t even in Ames right now either and doing Christmas stuff with families. I doubt posting their intentions on Twitter right now is a priority.

I think they’re waiting to hear from CMC. It’s possible he can’t/wont take all he’d like to. It’s not as if Pedo St doesn’t have talent. Does he take a kid he loves when he has better players? PSU TE room is deep and talented. QB is young, but was a big time recruit. And there’s an X factor that may not be a factor at all - how much ISU will they accept? Their message boards are already buzzing about “too many Iowa State coaches.”

We have room. We lost several HS commits and with those already announced, we could place 20 players easily.

15 year old Daughter first NFL game and will complete her crush on Brock Purdy.

Conversation tonight as she was making a poster for Brock and the game.

Her “I don’t know if it is bad or good that Rocco is leaving.”

Me “why do you say that?”

Her “because he was kind of sucking this year. So maybe it’s a good thing? I mean, I’ve seen enough Iowa State games to know he wasn’t as good this year.”

Other older daughter “Papa said Rocco was the reason Iowa State lost some of their games this year.”

Me “well, he was hurt , so Matt Campbell either played him when he shouldn’t have, or maybe the guys behind him weren’t good enough?”

Her “you mean #7 wasn’t good enough? I thought #7 was good enough. It’s probably ok though but I think Rocco should’ve felt out the new coach before leaving.”

Me “he may get more money by leaving and playing somewhere else.”

Her “ meh, I wouldn’t pay him more. But whatever”

We'll have him back to celebrate anniversary of 10 win season with the rest of the team, but we did the same for Shane Power in basketball. Outside of that, it's all about where you finish.

From reports MC is loyal to a fault.

The loss to CO was inexcusable knowing Rocco was hurt. Do they somehow think playing bad hurt shows he’s a better NFL prospect? Or had we really not developed a backup?

Either way, I see it as a coaching failure.

Edit: not so fast my friend, their 247 site seems to think they'll be qb shopping and zollers will be the backup. Don't see how that happens, he was a fairly high recruit with decent game film but I don't know that situation.

I went to the Miss. State @ Mizzou Game with Zollers @ QB this year. Zollers (8/15 for 112 yards with 2 TDs and 1 int.) was FANTASTIC handing the ball off to Ahmad Hardy - who had 25 carries for 300 yards and 3 TDs. / sarcasm

that was a complete coaching failure on both sides, especially offensively.

I think transfer portal announcements are for 2 possibilities and 2 possibilities only: Either you have soured so bad at your current school that you are leaving regardless or you know exactly where you are going and have already had discussions / agreements in place at a new stop.

My guess is the majority of our players and others that haven't yet announced are trying to feel out their best options. I still believe that best option for many is right here in river city. It's not like we made the playoff or even the B12 CG. The fact is some of our starters would be depth pieces at other schools. Not a knock, just reality. I don't know where Missouri is getting the money but they are replacing the hill behind the North end zone with a $250 million luxury suite palace. They also just gave Drinkwitz with a 26-24 SEC record a $10 million a year contract. I'd avoid Missouri if I was Becht because Drinkwitz tends to use his QB as a short yardage battering ram but if they pay enough he might bite.
