I appreciate the optimism but we won two games last year, we don’t need a “great practice guy”. We need dudes that can compete in the Big 12. Hopefully this kid can be that.
You're not going to have 13 guys that are all capable of soaking up minutes. Believing that every single guy we get is going to be a savior for next year's team is being too optimistic. You need guys that will push others in practice, hold people accountable, and help build a solid foundation for years to come. Practice guys are highly important to successful programs.

Yeah but when you suck don’t you try to bring in better players than the ones you just got done sucking with?

Heads in the sky
thing is you do need quality practice guys. The only way to improve this summer and give Conditt/Foster some experience vs legit size is to play against it. Last year ISU was lacking size and was having trouble even having practice let alone with college level size.
CTO isn't done complete some of the bench and focus recruiting on the top transfers with the final couple of schollys. Those will take time and effort into April.

Lol you’d be railing against prohm if he brought this guy in.

I hated Prohm and I never questioned who he brought in until they played the game for us. The Freddy years should have taught us that. Fresh starts, different systems, team chemistry etc.. are intangibles that can't be measured by stats. Until they play for us we don't know what they will bring.

One takeaway I had from watching NCAA Tournament games is that Iowa State has become one of the most below rim teams in college basketball! We need kids who can contest shots at the rim and rebound. Jones looks to have decent quickness and isn't a lumbering kid.

With the NCAA exemption for the 2020/21 season this kid will have 3 years at ISU. I also like that he wants to be an engineer.

Made an account just to add to this discussion- Jones had a 24% defensive rebounding percentage this year. For context, ISU hasn't had a guy post a percentage that high since Ejim in '13. While it's a really small sample size (14 games), the staff may see a guy who can give spot minutes and alleviate the defensive rebounding concerns of last year.

This percentage will likely drop against better talent but half of rebounding comes down to effort and BBIQ.

Mmmm, BBIQ...I could devour some burnt ends and brisket right about now.

First of all, TJ didn't get done sucking with any of these guys.. Prohm did. TJ also has (or soon will) get rid of all the pieces he believes will not help the team next year or in the future under him. A coaching change / culture change can be a night and day difference in what you get out of your players.

He's a very hard worker who is going to push Foster and Conditt to the max. This guy might not play significant minutes for us, but if he can help out Foster and Conditt, that's a plus. We haven't had a great practice guy that helps the big men in a long time and it might be this guy.

He also is friends with a guy that's rumored to be transferring from Marquette. This could help lure that guy from Marquette to Ames..

If that's the case, seems a little weird to transfer so you can practice.

CF: wished we had 6' 10" players

Gets 6' 10" player

CF: he sucks

6'10 and 40% 3 point shooters that can handle, iirc.

Like, 2 or 3 of them.

Realistic foundation all around.
