If that's the case, seems a little weird to transfer so you can practice.
I doubt TJ told him that, but I'm just being honest in how I'd see this guy fit into our team... Lol

If this guy ends up working into the starting 5 role, I'll admit I was wrong. And if he does do that, I think that'd be a good sign for us.

There's 13 scholarship players. About 8 to 9 will contribute in games, possibly even just 7 once you get into meat of conference schedule. It's likely he won't be a game-changer on the court (most players aren't!), but that's not always needed or even preferred. Anyone who's looking for a bunch of transfers to be DeAndre Kane-type quick fixes for an 0-18 team are in la-la-land. The hope with Jones are probably some combination:
  • Character kid with length who can be a good practice player, has potential to improve, and understands his role
  • Helps build relationships/footing with his AAU program for future recruits
  • Potentially help get another transfer or future transfers due to friendships/connections
This idea that because TJ and staff said they will recruit the Midwest doesn't mean we'll just have the pick of the litter of Midwest prospects like some on here think. The staff has to start building and growing relationships in the area. This move can help with that.

Also, not saying this kid is Freddie Gillespie, but Gillespie averaged 10 PPG/8 RPG in his sophomore year at a D3 school before transferring to Baylor and averaging 10 PPG/9 RPG/2 BPG as the starting center in 28 mins/gm last season on a top 5 team. Solely projecting a player's potential based on his stats at a previous school is short-sighted.

First of all, TJ didn't get done sucking with any of these guys.. Prohm did. TJ also has (or soon will) get rid of all the pieces he believes will not help the team next year or in the future under him. A coaching change / culture change can be a night and day difference in what you get out of your players.
I guess you can go with the belief that bringing in players who only help the level of competition in practice is the path to success then. You didn’t mention any of the above in the post I responded to.

Tall and good rebounder. Could fill a role. Definitely not the flashiest pickup but may be a solid player and at worst is a big body. Next couple pickups will hopefully be a little higher caliber

Okay fine. But what was considered dumb yesterday when questioning Cytwins why he doesn't want Mr. Jones...........

Why? He is majoring in engineering, is from the midwest, would probably love to play at ISU, has interest from UNI and more than likely is a Green target who you just stated was a tremendous hire. So what's the problem? I have been told more than enough times since the new hire we cannot expect TJ to get transfers the caliber of a Marcus Carr. So........here you go.

............is now spot on? Because......................here you go.

I mean if you don't think getting quality guys to help boost other guys is good for the team, or if you think every single guy is going to be starter material, I don't know what to tell you.. Also, as to what you were responding to, I think that TJ will be landing most likely 2 guys that you and others on here will find much better than this guy or Jazz.

Closer to home? May feel better coaching will help him out? Who knows.

There were people loving on Hans Brase before he showed up, and others that thought Nader was a practice guy. Earlier comment about changes in scenery and coaching, chemistry, etc was spot on.

How about we hope he turns out to be Dustin Hogue 2.0? And if he turns out to "only" be Daniel Edoze 2.0 that's OK too.

With so many guys in the portal and more being added every day, I just absolutely don't get this move. Jaz has all the underlying analytics saying he can be a contributor at the P6 level and really came on strong late so while he may not be the flashiest name, there's reason to believe he can be a part of a winning team. But unless this like directly gets us one of his high school teammates, I can't say I get taking a player like this so quickly when there are so many moving parts this spring specifically.

Yeah for the record I'm not against it...guy wants to play for ISU, great. Just seems like most transfers are for more playing time.

If TJ has a plan for him in a role or just plans for roles in general that's a good sign.
